No offense taken regarding the originals comment. I fully understand how attached we can get to our own creations even though others may not appreciate them as much.
I'm still going through the 2,000 or so MIDI files I have on HD trying to determine which ones might be appropriate and if I think I can pull them off. I had stopped at the J's alphabetically last time I had time to do so. A lot of them will be rearranged in BIAB. I have quite a few BIAB covers as well that I'll need to sort through.
As far as equipment goes, unless a laptop magically lands on my doorstep, I plan to use my iPod Touch for BT playback with my iPod Classic as a backup. I'll probably use my small PA and small mixer for BT playback. My Epi LP through a POD XT docked in a 18 watt tube Atomic made specifically for modellers can be use for performance amplification. 18 watts would not be enough for a bigger venue but I think it will be loud enough in this smallish area. Patch switching can be done via the FCB MIDI footboard. A Roland Micro Cube can be used for "stage" monitoring.
I'm thinking my second (or backup) guitar will be an Ibanez RGR412EXFM that I had routed out for a Line 6 Variax with a GK3 Hex pickup going to a GR-20. That way I could play a variety of guitar tones from the Variax and possibly blend in some ambient textures with the GR-20.
This is just a first thought so the gear choice may change during experimentation.

Forgot to mention that I'll have to go the old fashioned way and print out the lyrics and chord sheets. I have a few that I had done quite a while ago for my sister and now ex husband learn songs to play bass on a keyboard. The chords are arranged on top of the lyrics much like you see on some of the lyric websites.

I guess I'll need to amplify my vocals too :-). I only have a SM 57 and a Shure something or another that will plug into the mixer. I have a condenser mic but it picks up way too much in my studio much less in a bar.

I wished we lived closer as I would have no problem lending you a laptop and small PA for your gig as I always have a backup or two within reach.

Thank you for such friendly concern. You and the rest of the forumites are the best group of folk that I know on the interweb. And I'm sure even better in person.
As luck would have it, my brother has a two or three year old Sony VIO ? that he gave up on trying to get Windows reinstalled after a crash. I got it tonight to see if I can get it up and running. So far it looks like a bad partition number error keeping it from booting up. Even if I have to get a new HD for it, I think it may be worth it as it should have enough horsepower to gig with. We'll see.

A few thoughts on this thread
Make sure you have an alternative source standing by for playing back those sequences or files. Sooner or later, all technology fails.
Learn as many of the lyrics as you can (by practising with your song folder closed – if it’s open, you’ll always be looking at it)
Play one or two numbers 100% live with your own keys or gtr for accompaniment, if you’re worried that the inclusion of pre-recorded music in your act may threaten your credibility as a ‘real’ musician.
Sadly, yes – stick to covers. Choose not those that you like the best but those that are likely to go down the best with your audience.
and (sorry Mac for I know you were going to post this) practise, practise, practise. Then when you’ve practised enough, practise some more.

Thanks for the advise, mglinert. Good words indeed.
Unfortunately, my brother had recovery discs for another laptop so this one is dead as far as OS goes. I googled for an answer to see if this particular PC would run on Windows 7 but never came to a conclusion. I know I must buy an operating system for it but have never used Vista since I have only gone from XP to 7. And still an audio interface would be necessary.
Still researching and getting my possible cover songs up to 175 as I type. Of course that is only if I feel comfortable with them after recomposing and practicing, practicing and practicing (good advise guys).

We had a guitar/singer performing at our campground last week and people seemed to like his music and he playing recognisable songs but no-one was dancing. Since I know what our crowd likes I could see that his problem was tempo not content. He was playing everything with a "mid-tempo" and people didn't know how to dance to it. I went up and suggested he should concentrate on either slow (so they could dance close) or fast (so they could boogie). The in between stuff wasn't working. He followed my advice and the party started to rock.
