Like you, I add grace notes using the Piano Roll. I simply go to the P/Roll view, set the "Snap" and "Dur" to a suitable value (the 32nd note - second up from the bottom of the note list), hold CTRL+SHIFT down to get the writing tool for Piano Roll, and enter the note. Then I turn off the "Snap" so I can free-position the note if I need to.

As far as I am aware, grace notes cannot be notated in BIAB. This is one of it's limitation. Sounds like a good wishlist item.

Regarding the Bb4 notation ...

In the notation window, what exists is actually the grand staff although most people see it as a treble staff and bass staff. The note entry continues down the staff. Below middle C, the B immediately lower sits on the top line of the bass, the note on the first line is A below that in the top space is G, etc. To enter Bb, simply click on the space above the top line of the bass.
