Have been working diligently to learn the in's and out's of these programs. Love the potential here and working toward proficiency in their use. This combination is a songwriters dream!
Most of this song was done in BIAB including the harmonies and then imported into Real Band. Since I have so many tracks to work with, I have found it beneficial to make 2 copies of the tracks that I plan to do any editing on especially the vocal tracks.
That way if I mess up (and I do) I just delete that track and move on. I just pick up the duplicate and proceed without having to go back and get it from BIAB. This was especially helpful in getting the harmonies volume up and equal to the unharmonized parts. There must be an easier way to do this...any suggestions? Please take a listen to "Your Jealous Eyes" and let me know how I'm doing. Thanks www.soundclick.com/valzudell.

Would be interested to know where on the internet I might get more instruction on mixing down the songs and the use of the DXI plug-ins.

I am doing a mixing project right now that was recorded live so there are no individual tracks for any of the instruments or vocals. What I am doing is duplicating each track (all I have to work with is L & R) and then
using EQ to bring out the vocals on the duplicated track. I plan to pan the duplicated track to the center
to see if I can bring out the vocals and solos. I don't know if this helps you but you may have to try various "tricks" to get the desire sound you are looking for.
I recall hearing just last week that of all the steps in getting a final sound the way you like it, the mixing part is the one step that should be left to a professional.
I am beginning to see why that may be good advise.

Val, your song JEALOUS EYES ---- bring up the lead vocal a bit louder..... drums were overpowering it a bit. Need your vocals centered in the mix and raise the volume a bit.

Just my suggestion.................. Good work using PG products.

Thanks Ray, This is exactly what I was looking for. I've sent you an e-mail also.
I think I can make the needed changes now that I have your tutorials. I was so happy to learn how to release the preset volume controls.

Val,

When using the TC Helicon for harmonies; (I assume that is what you used?), be sure to not have any effects enabled or recorded on the vocal track the TC uses to create the harmonies with. You will get unwanted artifacts added in the rendering of the harmony tracks.

I have found if I use a dry, mono vocal track, the rendering of the harmonies come out much cleaner and clear sounding. I also prefer using "chords" setting for the TC's guide. Once you have rendered your harmonies, start with using the "background singer" category for the track effects. You can then open the mixer and adjust each dx-effect parameter for desired results.
