When I get frustrated working on a few bars that don't sound right I often have
BB generate chords with no melody to give me a new perspective.
Unfortunately, when you do this EVERY note and control event after the chord
generation is doubled. if you do it twice you get four duplicates etc.
One particularly frustrating day a waltz I was working on ran slower and slower,
sounded stranger and took a long time to play - when I looked at the file it was 26K!
Please note that this applies to 2012, 2011.5 and 2011. I have not checked further back.
Removing overlapping notes gets rid of the notes but not duplicate non note events.
Just fixing the aforementioned waltz took 10 hours.

Can you please give us the exact steps you are following so we can try to duplicate this?

I don't exactly get it, but I save stuff every few minutes when I'm messing so I don't ever get messed with.

I can make any song, from scratch, in Band in a Box, unless it has time sig changes and key changes, in less than 20 minutes, AND add the words and melody in another 30 minutes. Then I might mess with it 4 ways doing other styles. 10 hours?

1. Take any completed mgu - highlight some bars in the middle.
2. Generate that part of song using whatever melodist, chords only, voila.
Repeats double midi info each re-generation.

You can easily examine this with the event list editor.
As I said I tried this with 2012, 2011.5 and 2011. Same result using different mgus
and different melodists.

By the way I often write music for solo piano using BB. I know BB is not really designed for this but using BB
is how I learned some 15 years ago and I'm too old to change. I have owned every version of
BB since v7.
The waltz in question is 218 bars long and lasts 7 minutes. That's a lot of notes, pedals
and tempo changes to be duplicated. The music was exported to midi, imported into RealBand (quicker)
and the duplicates hand deleted. After rechecking, all of the waltzes in my last Cd have
some duplicate control info.
I use BB because I am technically inept as an instrumentalist and at music theory but I am stubborn.
Writing pretty things is what I do as a retired hobbyist - generally several hours a day.

So you have, of course, contacted the Mother Ship on Vancouver Island and they are hot on this? As a user forum this does get watched for obnoxious content, like dueling banjos. The latter have caused all kinds of alien unrest, and for the record Canada's Space Agency had to hit the reset button and reboot due to the caca-ophony.

I note for interest sakes that Canada has deemed a banjo is ok as a spare paddle in a boat. And yes, I have the new, government issued, tax paper they call a recreational boating permit, so know I now where to put the green and red lights on my canoe. Now if the ice melts by May 24 weekend I'm goin' fishing.

Thanks for the sluth work. Extra midi stuff will be ok with the new midi standard, I heard it's going to use Ethernet. Someone figured out that ether is for more than making you pass out when your tonsils come out. In my mind ether=popsicles.

I think my midi life crisis is over.

Hi Scott,

I'll have a play around with this tomorrow and see where your suggestions take me and what happens. I'm with you! I think BIAB is a brilliant tool and "stubborn" is good

All the best,
Noel
