First, I found a RealTrack that had a couple notes that sounded right. In this case I got lucky. Only took a few tries. In other cases it took longer and the match was not as clear.

Then I regenerated the track a bunch of times and used some rather fussy cut-and-pasting to move the phrases I liked to the places I wanted them. The multiple-riff-0-matic in RealBand helped a lot.

Tedious, but worth it. Notice that the match is not perfect: the RealTrack plays straight eigths while the MIDI plays a dotted-eighth pattern. In this case it gave a sense of improvisation and spontaneity that suited what I was looking for.
