Hallo Leute,
ich habe nun auch endlich die BB Festplatte erhalten und kann nun loslegen.
Da ich mir vorstelle, dass man ganz ohne Midi doch nicht auskommt, möchte ich mir auch die bestmögliche Soundkarte leisten, um einen soweit wie möglich natürlichen Midiklang zu haben.
Sie sollte schon auch einen guten Mikro-Vorverstärker haben.
Hat jemand einen guten Tipp für mich?
Z.Z. habe ich eine Creative Augity Soundkarte. Habe auch den Roland Canvas SC88 als
Midiklangerzeuger, der bessere Klänge hat, müsste aber wieder analog zum PC hinein, was aber umständlich ist die Aufnahmen komplizierter macht.

was genau hast Du denn vor? Gesangsaufnahme zu BiaB-Playback oder zusätzlich noch Gitarre bzw. Bass?
Zum Aufnehmen brauchst Du dann m.E. eine Karte mit sehr guten Wandlern und geringen Latenzen, vor allem wenn Du z.B. mit der Gitarre zu BiaB spielen willst. Hier nerven hohe Latenzzeiten ziemlich. Solche Karten gibt es viele, aber die wenigsten (oder m.E. keine) hat überhaupt eigenen Midi-Sound. Die spielen nur das, was der PC über Klangerzeuger wie MS GS Wavetable oder andere Software-Synthies an die Karte weiterreicht. Das dann aber mit erstklassiger Qualität, geringem Rauschabstand usw.
Karten mit eigenen Midi-Klängen wiederum (z.B. die mit Creative Soundfonts), sind in Sachen Aufnahme- und Klangqualität sowie Latenz oft nicht so gut wie reine Recordingkarten. Sie richten sich auch mehr an Computer-Gamer. Hier muss man also einen Kompromiss eingehen.
Wenn zudem die Micro-Preamp-Qualität wichtig sein soll, wäre m.E. ein kleines Mischpult vor der Soundkarte ganz sinnvoll, dessen Preamps oft besser sind, als die in den Karten eingebauten. Diese sind - zumindest bei PCI-Steckkarten - ja auch immer den Einstreuungen innerhalb des PC-Gehäuses ausgesetzt.
In der aktuellen Ausgabe der deutschen Computerzeitschrift "c't" (Ausgabe 5/2009) ist gerade ein interessanter Vergleichstest von Recordingkarten enthalten.

Hallo Ralf,
herzlichen Dank, schön langsam bekomme ich ein klares Bild.
Ich habe einen Mixer von Zeck für Liveauftritte, so werde ich diesen benutzen.
Was ich noch nicht verstehe: wie komme ich zu einem besseren Midisound?
Mit dem Midi Sound der Augidy bin ich nicht zufrieden, ich werde versuchen ob es geht Midi duch Roland Soundcanvas zu schleifen, also Midi out zum Gerät und analog Audio zurück zum PC, allerdings wäre mir eine SW Lösung lieber.
Wenn die Sounds nicht von der Soundkarte kommen, gibt es dann eigene Programme, die General Midi Sounds erzeugen?

Ketron SD2 hat exzellente Kritiken erhalten und wird im Hauptforum oft empfohlen. Coyotes ForteDXi ist eine preisgünstige und durchaus praktikable Alternative.

Früher hatten die meisten Soundkarten einen Klangerzeuger-Chip, der die Midi-Sounds erzeugte. Dann kamen Karten, die hatten Speicher-Banks für Midi-Sounds, in die man Samples (z.B. Soundfonfts) laden konnte. Heute gibt es nur noch wenige solcher Karten, die Midi-Sounds selber erzeugen. Stattdessen wird Midi-Sound auf dem Rechner per Software erzeugt, den die Karten dann einfach nur noch ausgeben. Früher war z.B. diese "Dudelmusik" in Computerspielen Midi-erzeugt. Heute sind das alles Samples, oder Mp3s, die abgespielt werden. Daher spielt Midi auf Soundkarten fast kaum ein Rolle mehr.
Der PC erzeugt die Midi-Sounds entweder standardmäßig unter Windows per "MS GS Wavetable" in bekannt schlechter Qualität ("Kirmesmusik"). Oder Du installierst eben einen Software-Klangerzeuger mit besseren Samples. Also z.B. Roland Soundcanvas, ForteDXI, Edirol Canvas, NI Bandstand, NI Kontaktplayer usw. Nachteil: Je nach Programm große Latenzen, hohe CPU-Auslastung und schwerfällig. Das klanglich sehr gute NI Bandstand ist. z.B. gut auf BiaB abgestimmt, lädt aber Gigabyte-weise Samples und erzwingt immer irgendein Nachladen oder warten. Der Roland Soundcanvas zickt unter Windows Vista und verursacht allerlei Probleme (Schau mal ins US-BiaB-Forum).
Ich würde Dir zunächst zu einer guten PCI-Soundkarte raten, die hochwertige Wandler hat und gute Werte bei Rauschabstand usw. Ich verwende eine M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496, die gute Dienste leistet. Die hat aber nur 2 Ein/Ausgänge und keinen Preamp. Davor habe ich aber ein 4-Kanal-Recordingmischpult von Soundkraft, was die Zahl der Eingänge verdoppelt. Mit USB-Soundkarten oder solchen mit Firewire-Anschluss kenn ich mich nicht so aus, habe aber gehört, dass hier die Latenzen höher sind. Ist auch immer eine Frage, wie viele Ein- und Ausgänge du letztlich brauchst.
Du hast mit dem Roland CS88 einen Midi-Expander, der m.E. besten Midi-Sound liefert. Wenn Du dessen Ausgänge übers Mischpult in die Karte zurückschleifts, wäre doch alles in bester Ordnung. Wenn diese Lösung haken sollte, kannst Du ja immer noch mit den Softwareklangerzeugern experimentieren.

Hallo Raimond,
ich empfehle dir, das beiliegende Virtual Sound Canvas VST zu installieren. Das ist ein virtueller Klangerzeuger, der relativ brauchbare Ergebnisse liefert und nix kostet. Ich habe ihn völlig problemlos unter XP und unter Vista in Gebrauch. Vom Sound her sollte er dem SC88 einigermaßen entsprechen ...
