Hi , This is really basic but I have midi files I wish to play along with. All the editing and mixing has been done.
I wish to add a couple of bars of a 'click track' IE: single drum beats at the tempo and time signature of the song, at the start so to get the lead in while playing back the .WAV file on my sound sysytem and reading the printed music for my instrument.

Cannot seem to find this anywhere in the user guide.

Cheers

Go to EDIT - INSERT BLANK BARS INTO SONG and add the two bars to the start of the track. You can then use the drum track to insert a stick click to count you in.

OK Rog, I have the blank bars in no problem.

On some Midis I can get the clicks into a blank track by hitting RECORD and they come up automatically.- this is great

On others all I get is silence. Something's not turned on.

How do I insert the stick click using the drum track as I have only preselected full drum tracks not stick clicks tracks?.

One step at a time please.

Thanks

OK, here we go-

1) Go to the BARS window and click on the drums track to select it.
2) Open the NOTATION window.
3) Use the mouse to enter notes for the count-in.
4) On GM synths there is a stick click on note G2, or you can drag the note onto
the high hat, or anything else you prefer.
5) If you use minims in the first bar and crotchets in the second bar, you'll get a very professional - "one two, one two three four" !

If you've any problems entering notes using the mouse, get back to me.
Good luck.

OK, done .

1), 2) , 3), 5)- I have the Midi track with the notes inserted as suggested.

I have the track set on Midi Drums ch 10.

This plays OK but I have the long whistle C6 instaed of the G2 (sticks) sounding.

I can see this, using the drum window, but cannot see where you can alter this setting.

Please expand on point 4).

Sorry to be a pain but I've never used this programme before and the tutorials that I have found are crap - the videos they supplied are in Win 95!! and the user notes are not very clear.
Cheers

No problem - happy to help.

With the notes already entered, click and hold on one of the notes and drag it to a new place on the stave. You should hear the sound change as it passes over each line and space. On the header strip there's a box which displays which note and octave you're on. Now drag the note way below the bass clef until the box reads G2 - this should be the stick click.

I have to say, though, the long whistle sounds like fun.

If you hear it on some, it may be a metronome options setting.
Click the metronome icon, make sure its not the tempo icon (they look very similar). Should see an option to enable the count in.

ROG's way works (and I use it often), just thought I'd point out another possibility.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

rharv - you're right about the metronome, but if you go back to the original post, Laurie's wanting the two bar count to appear on the finished wav file, so I think we're stuck with this method. (The metronome count in isn't recorded and if you set it on playback it plays through the whole track)

You can record a click track using the metronome to record to a separate track on it's own. The metronome panel allows a number of options.

LynB - that's right, but you still need to insert the blank bars to record to, because the metronome counts in before the track starts. Just trying to clear up any ambiguity here.
