When the ending doesn't work, I unfold to 1 chorus add 4 to 6 bars and make an ending with a hold chord before the regular ending happens.
Example 4 bar hold and shot ending >
C...1st bar of new ending/2nd bar empty/3rd bar empty /4th bar empty/C.. 5th bar shot ending.
If I want a Soloist to play during the ending I use Strings track for the solo track. Replace the 1st bar of ending with C...S and solo will play during the ending.
Likewise here, in fact I have always built my songs unfolded into one long chorus. And as Tommy has stated you then have numerous options using the holds and bar settings mute, change volume etc. etc to get the ending the way you want it.
