Hello. I am using BIAB 2012 on Windows XP SP3 running on a Athlon II X3 tri-core processor with 4 GB DD3 RAM. When manually changing styles, I receive the following error message: "Access Violation at address 00767B8E in module bbw.exe. Read of address 00000000 at: 00767B8E. BIAB then becomes unstable and shuts down.
Has anyone else experienced this issue before? Thank you.

BTW, I have Microsoft Security Essentials running along with HP Digital Imaging monitor.

Hi Jeff,

Welcome to the forums. That's pretty unusual with XP. Have you installed the latest build for BIAB (Build 349)? Also have you tried resetting to factory settings (under the Opt Menu)?

Regards,
Noel

I used to get this when I used a bunch of Real Tracks on my old machine. Biab has a "fast generation" function and sometimes an older PC can't handle it. That means Biab will start playing your song faster than normal because it's still generating the song in the background. It's never an issue if you just let the song play but sometimes when I was testing styles or whatever, I would listen to just a few bars, hit stop and maybe put the mouse in the middle of the 2nd ending and hit play. Do that before it's finished generating and Biab locks up, you think it's crashed, try to close it and get all kinds of access violations and error messages.

Try setting up a song with 1 Real Track, then 2, then 3, play with the generation times and see if that's it.

Bob

I experienced this "Access Violation" many times in the past, particularly after installing a newer version of BIAB. Somewhere I read that this was caused by having duplicate files of "bbw.exe" and sure enough everytime it would happen I would check and find more than one copy in my BB folder. I would delete the duplicates and everything would work fine again. Just make sure you don't delete the one that connects your shortcut to the program. You can usually tell by the date it was installed.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. I checked my c:\bb folder & found the following:
bbw.exe and bbw.exe.manifest. the bbw.exe.manifest file is dated 11/23/07.
Could this possibly be something held over from BIAB 2007?

The manifest file has only to do with the look of biab. If you delete it, you won't have gradient buttons but grey buttons.
"Read of address 00000000" means that the program tries to access to something that doesn't exists. Did you try to return to factory settings as suggested by Noel ?
I think that you can delete the file "intrface.bbw" too to remove your settings (maybe some members of this forum can confirm ?)

Yep, deleting "intrface.bbw" and "mysetup.dk" from your BB folder is the ultimate version of "return to factory settings". It's necessary to exit BIAB before doing this. Also, rather than deleting, I encourage simply renaming to something like "intrface.old", "mysetup.old". That will allow you to restore the files should you wish.
