Gee, I thought I had posted this a little while ago but came back to look for it and couldn't find it. This song was originally written and recorded back when there was no Real Drums, Realtracks or Real Band. I think it was in 1996 or '97. It was soon after I got my first BIAB. I had really been missing the group that I had played with because we had just moved to Florida so I had found this program BIAB) at a dealer in Nashville at the NAMM Convention, and I had my band back (minus the comraderie). So this is what I did with it. I think I had used Travis for my basic sound, added a piano soloist and Vocal and this is what I got. http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=4365350I have re-done the music with the new 2012 version using RealTracks with Memphis Swing and I really like the sound but now I don't have a vocal so I'm wondering if I can import the MP3 into Real Band and use the same vocal I had done but add the new music and delete the old tracks. Has anyone done this? Does it work? Val

Osmosis, Val! I loved the instrumentation on this one, clever mix. Good production.
I understand your frustration regarding recovering old vocals. Since I lost my voice I have been struggling to recycle many of my pre-stroke vocals and I am convinced that it is possible. Meanwhile, my old reel-to-reel tapes are crumbling to dust.
You have a wonderful voice. What is the medical prognosis for your recovery? Are there any forms of speech therapy that might help? I would be happy to discuss it with my SLP (Speech Language Pathologist). Her office is right next door to my room.

Val,
You commented earlier to me about good dance music.
This is really great, makes you want to get up and go for it.
I like your vocals with it.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Val this is a fun song, but unless you still have the original vocal track I don't know of a good way to add your new tracks. Why not just try it and see if it works for you. Thanks for sharing Val, I'm so sorry you are unable to sing it again I bet it would be Great!

Val,
First of all nice song. You have a fine country voice. It's too bad you can't sing anymore. Second, unless you have just the vocal minus the backing track I don't believe there's a way of doing what you want. The best you could do is to import the mp3 to BIAB and add real tracks to the existing arrangement. Tim

Really like the lyrics Val, and you know I like your voice. I also like your idea of updating it with the swing RT's. Maybe you'll be able to find that vox track somewhere in your files. Good luck.

Val, Very nice! I agree, this is a fun dance song. I would like to be able to hear it with your new arrangement, but don't know how it would work without a recording of just the original vocals. Guess we will just have to keep praying for your voice to return! Steve

Josie And Bob, Thanks for the nice comments. I doubt that I still have those tracks. Back then I was saving everything on cassettes or 3.5 Floppy disks and my computer now doesn't even have a floppy drive so they aren't doing me much good. I did find the vox track for the other song I have on here but when I brought it into Real Band it sounded horrible. So I'm not sure I can do anything with it. I'm not sure why the great difference in sound other than it was a different sound system on my old computer and that may account for it. I do know the guitars in VSC sounded so much better than the ones I have in Forte DXI and I've been trying to find a soft synth that sounds as sweet as the old Virtual Sound Canvas or maybe I will learn how to tweek the sound to get what I want with all the new controls that 2012 version offers. I guess it will just take some playing around to find out what I can do.

Val, A tape duplicating service can convert your cassettes to CD or, maybe even better, a USB thumb drive. Alternatives would be (1) a cheap cassette player with "line outputs" or (2) a "Y" adapter from it's headphone jack to your soundcard input. I have a Tascam PortaStudio 4-track cassette recorder that you are welcome to have but the drive belts are probably bad with age. Lemme know. This would be a very nice solution for not much Loonies: http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Cassette-...7994&sr=1-7

Thanks Don, You are the most generous person and I thank you so much for your most generous offer, but I already have a Tascam 4 trk. It's what I used to use all the time before BIAB got so much into Audio. I think what I will do is work on getting real good with Audio Edit in Real Band. There seems to be a lot than can be done there and I am anxious to spend some time learning how to use it to the extent that I am able. My biggest problem is holding on to what I learn one day to put it to use the next day. I have used it for simple stuff but I'm looking forward to be able to cut and paste and replace sections so seamlessly that no one will be able to catch my boo-boos. I'm much slower on the learning curve than I used to be but I usually can get there with perseverence and lots of time. Oh my....I have so much to learn...so little time. LOL

Malcom,
I have to admit that I can't dance either...but it's fun to think about what I would do if I could! I settled for sitting it out at the keyboard and playing while the others danced.

Val,
Your Tascam is all you'd need to get your old cassette tunes into the "digital domain" where you can perform serious surgery on them.
I, too, was always playing for other people to dance so I didn't really learn to dance well. Oh, I could fake it through a slow shuffle or waltz with minimal damage to the lady's podiatry. I can dance as well in my powered wheelchair. A black (her term) nurse seeks me out during live entertainment to dance and when I point to my wheelchair as an alibi she reassures me by saying: "Don't worry 'bout it! Watt folks cain't daince anyway! Then she proceeds to dazzle the joint with her footwork while I put my wheelchair in neutral steer and make tight circles. Oh how I love that little lady!
Now, she and my Head Nurse, Amy (talk about yer basic medical specialization) can really incise the loom-age (cut a rug) proving that watt folks can too dance.
She once said: "God made all of us from the same cookie dough and uses the same cookie cutter!" I retorted: "Yes, but, occasionally He scorches a batch!" Three days later, I woke up in the ICU.

Hmmmmm ... I love that old country dance sound. Brings back a lot of great memories. If I could get my hands on your tracks I could get it to all match up. Plus I could do some clean up and retone too. Just a thought. I really need the new computer set up and running when it gets here. But let me know if I can help. Don knows I'm fairly good at this stuff. And I always like to help out when I can.

Yahoo! Russ is back! What, pardner, bad flyin' weather?
Val, you won't get a sweeter offer for help. Russ knows from whence he speaks and he speaks Michigander passably well if you squint with your good eye and skip alternate words and all redundancies. If you can speak R/C modeling it will help carry you kids over any lulls.
Seriously (did I say that?), you, dear lady are taking on a daunting task and need all the experienced help that you can possibly muster, especially if you want professional results.
Russ, take good care of this lady, we's buddies!

Hi Don, You crack me up with your stories about dancing! But you lost me at R/C modeling. What is that? Yes, I am so about taking up Russ on his offer of help. I think he could teach me a few (alot of) things I need to know. I've been to his site several times and so enjoyed his songs. Very talented guy! One of my favorites is "You Can't Make A Heart Love Somebody" from his site. Wasn't sure if it was still up 'cause it's been awhile. I have already recovered most of the songs (that were worth recovering)from tapes, it was the midi stuff and BIAB files that I had saved on the old floppy (3.5) discs that I can't recover because I have no floppy drive on my computer now. Amazing how things become obsolete so fast these days. Wondering if the same thing will happen with CD's. I'm using mostley flash drives to keep my songs on now. But I suppose they'll soon phase out USB and replace it with something else.
Talk to you later, "Old Irishman"

Was so happy to see you on here. Want to thank you for your offer of help and say that I welcome it with open arms. As I explained to Don in the above post, most of the songs worth recovering from tapes, I have done but I really want to learn how to use the Audio Edit in Realband to update what I have. I have imported a song into RealBand and then added new tracks but can't get them synchronized. I guess I will have to print out the help section because I can't hold the instructions in my head long enough to achieve results. I miss the "printed manuals" that used to come with BIAB. Print cartridges are so expensive that I only print out what I'm currently working on. As I told Don, I've been to your site and listened to your songs and enjoyed every minute. Is it still up? I know a lot of folks have taken their sites down since there was so much "flack" going on. I know there is a lot that can be done to a song with all the new contols BIAB and RealBand has added but it's a lot for an old lady like me to absorb and understand so I really welcome your offer of help. Just need to know how to get a song or two to you so you can work on it. You can e-mail me at vzudell@yahoo.com. Had always used Hotmail but they are getting so "picky" about opening attachments that I'm switching over to Yahoo as they offer me options that Hotmail didn't for opening them. So happy about the prospect of working with you!!! Val
