We are all learning… with that said it’s a great time to be making music…. Finally the software tools have caught up to the creative process.. This is my work flow..not saying it is a good one.. but it seems to do the job for me…

Step (1): These days I write the initial song using EZkeys. It allows me to access the circle of fifths during the melody fleshing out process…. During this step I also have another application open.. called Masterwriter 2.0 That software allows me to find song topics.. as well as rhymes and syllable matched phrases. It’s a writers dream.

Step (2): Once the melody and basic chord set has been hacked through… I then bring the midi file into BB. I’m not a BB expert….I just want the chord patterns in BB so once there I get rid of the midi file. Then I load a varity of Real Tracks …trying to find that sound in my head for whatever instrument I’m looking for…bass, organ.. guitar. I never stay in one style of a song… most of the time I’m all over the place in styles….lol I drop each style to a .wave separate track file..

Step (3) I then fire up Protools 10 and bring all that data in. Midi piano part, BB wave tracks.. and start the mix production process… Adding effects, compression…etc…

Step (4) I then add the vocal tracks using Protools 10 and put effects on the vocals.

Step (5) At this point if the song is not as rich sounding as I wanted I start using the virtual instruments built into protools and adding additional midi parts… Sometimes self generated and sometimes BB midi parts.

Step (6) I do a .wav bounce to create a master mix and I do a .mp3 bounce to create my reverbnation post.
