Hi all,

Anyone know where I can find some sample cal programs that I can study to learn how to write my own.
I think the language could be useful in helping me develop some midi special effects routines.
I've been looking at the cal language for the past couple hours and the concepts seem pretty basic.
As far as looping and conditional statements go. The syntax of the language is a bit different then what I'm use to, but I think looking at some code examples will help in that area.

Any help would be much appreciated.

OK, a random thought;
Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who's not buying it?

I have 37 CAL scripts in a folder that I'm pretty sure has been there for many versions. These files are dated 2005.

Tim, if you want these, send me a PM with your email. But if you have SONAR, you may already have what I have. Mine are in the /Cakewalk Content folder, then the SONAR version you have, then /Cal Scripts

I also have a PDF reference guide for CAL scripts. I'm a programmer, and I agree they would be easy enough to understand and modify.

I have 233 CAL's:
- 37 are the ones NOW included with CW/SONAR
- 25 were supplied on a 720K 3.5" floppy as part of 1991 CAL Contest Winners disk - and 23 of those 25 are now part of the 37 "standard" CAL files supplied with CW/SONAR - not sure why other two aren't.

I only looked at file names/size and then a byte-for-byte check when I and searched for duplicates - I didn't fire up SONAR or even CWPA 9 (which I still run from time to time)to see if they would WORKED with current Sonar X1 or CWPA (yes, I still use it once in a while).

So I have ~ 200 other CAL files, accumulated since DOS CW Version 2, primarily from other users, TTS forums, web downloads- but all from old Twelve Tone Systems/Calkwalk sites, forums, or the newer CW site/forums, and a few were written by myself. Some have documentation (.txt's. .WRI's. .doc'), some are self-documenting, and some "not so much."

Please, be aware - some, if not a lot of these aren't needed any longer or are not very useful: SONAR has some of these functions built-in now; the CAL app does something that most folks now do on the rendered AUDIO file not on the underlying MIDI file; maybe a 3rd party app does it a lot better; etc. Frankly I haven't called up a CAL file in a long time. Also with the modern wonders of "duplicate search" utilities and weeding out name/size/date duplicates that doesn't mean some of these are not functionally identical or minor variations of the same function.

However, you or anyone are welcome to them if you want. Like Matt send a PM with email and I will zip my entire folder of CAL's together with the few txt/wri/docs and send them along. although the CW provided 37 you already have, along with the PDF file from Matt, is probably the 99.9% of everything you'll every actually need.

I concur with Larry. I haven't used CAL in a decade, and some functions for which CAL used to be helpful are already provided.

Mat,

You and Larry have a very good point, but in my case being blind there are certain functions of Sonar that are just not accessible to me and my speech software.
I'm hoping I can overcome that problem via the cal language and also maybe come up with a couple functions that aren't available through Sonar as well.

Check your PM - you should have soon. If issues with ZIP I can RAR or 7Zzip or SFARK or whatever you need

If you write some useful CAL's you might want to offer them up over at the SONAR forums - I don't visit there much anymore (I haven't cared for the topics or "tone" over there in a long time)

Good Luck

Larry

Hey Larry,

Got them. The file unzipped just fine.
Thank you very much.
It looks like I'm gonna be busy for a while.
