I am transposing a Clifford Brown solo from a recording of Confirmation. I have a folder on my desktop that has the .wav file of Confirmation, a Finale file where I am writing out the transcription and a BIAB file of Confirmation. The only time I use the BIAB file is to play along with what I’ve learned so far.

Yesterday when I clicked on the BIAB file (BIAB was not running at this time), the BIAB file opened, where the BIAB file was playing WITH the .wav file playing in it.

1) Why did this happen (never happened before)
2) Any way to get it to open without playing the .wav file?
3) Any thing I need to set so it won’t do this with any tune again?

Thanks !

The .wav file will play along with BIAB if it is in the same folder as the BIAB song and it has the same name (ex. song.wav and song.sgu).

Matt is correct. To prevent this you have to set the prefs option to not play the same name .wma/wav files when you open a song in BIAB.

Alternatively, you could just move the location of that .wav file out of the same folder with the BB song (could create a subfolder in there to hold it) or simply change the name of the .wav file by one character, "Confirmation_.wav" or something.

Love Clifford, always a lesson to transcribe. Confirmation is a fav.

And then there's Clifford's famous Cherokee solo, I remember when ya couldn't get a gig unless you could blow that one, man...

Thanks Barry and Mac!

Yep, Clifford was the King. I worked for a long time to be able to play that Cherokee solo. It is hard to play horn stuff on a mandolin!

That is excellent, man. The old school guitarists almost to a man used to emphasize transcribing horns in order to get the natural "singing" type of phrasing that players who have to take a breath to keep on playing bring to the thing.

I know more good bluegrassers who can play good bebop than jazzers these days, they know more of the repertoire, too, now ain't that interesting?

Greetings guys,

Yeah, I know Im taking this OT, BUT.....I am a huge Clifford fan, have been for years. Transcribed his solos and played along, etc. In fact, for a few years I was torn between trying to sound like Clifford or Freddy Hubbard. One night, I was at a buddies house, he asked me if I had checked out Booker little........ He played the album (WAY before CDs) Ëric Dolphy live at the 5 spot¨. It blew my mind.
IMHO..Clifford had a more centered and sweeter sound, but Booker took the changes to the next level harmonically. Also, although Clifford played double time lines nicely, Booker could play 64th note lines that sounded like they were coming from Saturn. The Aquilles heel for Booker was his intonation, but that may have come from the fact that he was playing such wide intervals. If you really want to challenge yourself, try transcribing ¨Birds Mother¨ (Eric Dolphy & Booker Little) So sad that he died so young from Uremia, from eating paint chips. Getting high was almost a requirement for jazzers in those days.

Hope that helps,
Ed

You aiight, Ed!

Booker Little.

Bad cat.

Blew some great stuff.

Booker's solo with Donald Byrd on "Wee Tina" is another wild one. (Some guy named Lew came along and musta had callouses on his ears from listenin' to Booker, huh? (grin)

Clifford played with Roach, but so did Booker! (video)

You betcha. Big shoulders to stand on there.
