Ok, I did a song in BIAB with a midi style and midi melody and saved. I opened it in RB hoping to add 1 or 2 more midi tracks (so far only 1). I would like to have a horse trot sound playing during certain parts of the song. So I added a midi track and put in a program change to woodblock. Then I just put in 4 quarter notes to a bar, total of 24 bars. No problem so far. When I hit the play button, the woodblock not only plays the horse trot notes but also the melody along with the instrument (rhodes piano) on the melody track. This extra melody does not show in the notation nor does the program change to woodblock show up in the events list for the rhodes piano melody track.

Note that I did change all tracks to non biab tracks. The regular drum track is on track 10 and the woodblock track is track 11. I haven't tried recording each individual midi track to an audio track yet. I'm thinking that might be a solution, but my I'm really curious as to why this is happening with my midi tracks.

Please venture forth with any idea. Thanks.

Stan

Hi Stan,

Have you set MIDI channels on your tracks? It might be that they both tracks are set to the same MIDI channel.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Stan

Noel is probably correct. Use the Classic Window and change the Channel Numbers to correspond with the track numbers. Use "Edit > Rechannel all tracks" which will sort out this problem. As regards to the horse trotting noise - have you thought about downloading wave files and introducing these into your composition???

The regular drum track is on track 10 and the woodblock track is track 11

See if channel 11 is assigned to a track channel. You'll want it on MIDI channel 10 to get the sound you are after.
Right-click just below the track name, look at MIDI channel choice; select 10

If that doesn't work there are other ways to 'force' a MIDI channel on a given track.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Stan,

Here's a picture to help out with rhav's advice.

Right-click on the region of the track where "fx", track parameters and track names are given. On the menu that pops up, you'll see the "channel" option. These are the 16 midi channels that can be set.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Thanks Everybody. The dual melody issue cause was as you said.

The woodblock channel was set to 0

Here's the channel settings now:

Bass 2
Piano 3
Melody 4
Strings 6
Guitar 7
Midi drums 10 (but Real drums are used)
Woodblock 11

Now I'm not getting any sound for the bass, piano, and melody. The sound is going into the SD2 though since the light is blinking. However, it blinks fine for the strings, guitar and woodblock, too. This is freaking me out.

Update: I tried to change all of the channel numbers to be the same as the track numbers. All worked okay except for the guitar track which I had changed to channel 4. No audio. So I went to the Events List and put in a control change to channel 4. That didn't work either. Since everything in the events list showed channel 7, I just changed it to that. Channel 4 just didn't want to work on this song. I did check another midi song and all the channels on it worked fine. Bottom Line....Only the great Midi God knows for sure..

Thanks to all for helping out the old curmudgeon.

Hi Stan,

I don't know about the SD2 but what you describe sounds like a volume setting. Have you checked that all volumes are up around 90 or so?

It might that when you set the channel, the default volume is zero.

Noel

Many thanks, Noel, but it was the great Midi God trying to humble this old curmudgeon.....and he succeeded. (see above)
