I've been trying to import a track from an Audio CD I had made because I wanted to do some editing on it, but a little error message keeps coming up saying "Sorry, can't convert" or "Problem in converting". I had previously imported songs from that CD with no problem so I'm wondering if I may have "lost" some codecs when I did a restore on my computer a short time ago. Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so what did you do? If it's the codecs, how would I go about getting them back?
Should I do a re-install of Realband? If so should I uninstall it first or do it over the old one?

Hi Val,

It could be codecs. I use K-Lite codecs (full version) found at the below link. They are freeware and I find them excellent.

http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm

If you decide to install these, just make sure you deselect all the free add-ons like toolbars, registry cleaners, etc., that seem to come packed up with all freeware these days. Also be aware that when you install the package, it will substitute it's own Media Player for Windows Media player as the default. Again this is something that can easily be modified during installation (and after installation if need be).

Lastly, it will be worth waiting to see what others say. They might have a more elegant solution than mine.

Kind regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel,
I just thought of something else I could try before I jump the gun. I have my hard drive version that I put away for backup which I will plug in and see what happens with that. If I can access my disc from that then I will know for sure that I lost things in my "Restore" session.
I appreciate your response and the link for codecs.

Well, now I have downloaded and installed the codecs from the site as you suggested Noel and I've been able to import the song into Realband so that must have been the problem, but now I can't get them to "save" or "save as" in Realband. Never had that problem before. Is my Realband going crazy on me? I had just downloaded and installed the updates this morning so now I can't figure out what else to do. Grrrr....

Hi Val,

It sounds like it might be time to return RB to factory defaults.

Here's what I suggest ...

I'd reset RB to factory settings by renaming the REALBAND.INI file and RB.CFG to something like REALBAND.INI.OLD and RB.CFG.OLD. This will effectively "delete" those files so that RB is forced to create new ones (thus the factory rest). If the problem is not solved by doing this, you can always delete the newly created files and then return the original files to their original names.

You'll need to do this with RB closed down.

Regards,
Noel

Noel,
I just closed everything down completely and then brought it back up and everything is working fine like it is supposed to so I'm satisfied that the codecs or lack thereof was the problem and I probably won't need to return to factory defaults. I'm not sure I would know how to get into changing those files anyway, I'm not very computer savvy. I just turn it on and hope everything works. LOL. It usually does so I go on my merry way.
It was nice to know that someone was here to help me out when I needed it. Thanks so much!

You are missing something here Vzudell unless I'm the one who missed something. You're talking about ripping a CD, correct? No need for 3rd party codecs to do that, RB itself does the "ripping" if you will. Simply put your CD in a player, select the player as your audio source in RB, arm a track and record it. RB converts it to a .seq audio file which you can later save as a wav file, WDM, export for conversion to a MP3 or a CD audio file when you're done modifying it.

RB uses the codecs installed on the system for conversions like mp3, audio import, etc, (which I *think* came into play for her situation in another thread).

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Bob, (jazzmammal)
Actually I was trying to import the songs into Realband for editing. I had done this several times before and it had always worked well so I knew something had changed. After reading what I could find on "conversion", I concluded that perhaps some of my codecs had gone missing which is apparently what had happened. Not being particularly computer savvy, I didn't know if the codecs were part of the Realband program or computer files. Since I have replaced the missing codecs everything is working again as it always had and I have been able to import the songs and edit them and save them. So I'm a "happy camper". Thanks for taking the time to respond.
