I'm using BB2012; and I have all of the styles and upgrades from 2012 back to BB12 (2005). I'm trying to use the =BRT_PBG style which was part of Set #16, and tweak it a bit. Somewhere along the line the guitar-track got reset from "Strumming Guitar-#406" (which was the original setting) to: "Strumming Guitar-#524".

I reinstalled Set #16 from the original installation disks to overwrite the styles. I made sure the song I'm working on is "Unfrozen" and "Un-Rendered", and made sure that the song file was not "protected" in any way. Every time I try to right-click on the Guitar track and "Re-Assign" the track from 524 to 406, when I close the selection window, it still shows 524. I've tried changing through the GUITAR radio-button on the bar at the top, and I've tried changing it through the "Mixer" window by choosing the "Patches" tab, and choosing "Select RealTracks"... Neither method changes the track.

(And I also wanted to change the STRINGS MIDI patch from #50 to #52) That WORKED... So, the MIDI patches seem to be changeable, but this guitar track won't.

Any ideas?

Hi LadyJazzer,

I've just had a look at the style in my BIAB ver. 2012, and it has RT #406 as you say was its original default. Have you tried returning to factory settings and then doing the instrument change? It sounds like something has become "stuck" inside the software.

Regards,
Noel

Dumb question: If I click on "Return to Factory Settings" does that mess with the MIDI/VST/DXI setting stuff? I'd rather have a root canal than mess with that again after all these years...

Thanks!

Save you current settings before returning to factory settings.

In the newer versions, 'Return to factory settings' first prompts you to save your existing settings.

Also, you would want choice #1, "Return MOST to factory settings (excluding MIDI drivers and patch maps)".

OK... I did the "Return to factory settings"...And I chose Option-1 "(excluding MIDI...)"

I reopened my track, and tried to change the Guitar setting back to #406...It still won't change from #524...

So, that didn't work...

I just sent my track to a friend who also has BB2012, and she's going to try to change it, and send it back to me to see if that has any effect. However, I'm betting it won't...

I'll post the result when I get it back...

It may be doing an automatic tempo swap. Try changing your tempo and see if it reverts to the RT you want. You can turn off tempo swaps in the Song Settings. You usually want to let BIAB do the tempo swaps.

Just heard back from my friend:

"I tried everything I know, and it always reverts to 524. This is interesting though. I clicked on the soloist track and put 406 in there and even IT would revert to 524 when it began to play. BUT I picked a tenor sax to see what it would do on something other than a guitar, and it held it just fine. I don't get it."

So, the problem seems to follow the song file.
Putting the 406 file into a "Soloist" track even gets changed to 524.
Picking something other than 406 (tenor sax, in her test) into Soloist track works...

If I click on "NEW", and select the =BRT_PBG style in the Style Picker, here is the description:

=BRT_PBG.STY. Light Rock w/ BossaPiano(140 RT)
Real and MIDI. Quintet.
RD: BOSSAROCK^6-a:Blastix, HiHat , b:Sidestick, HiHat Loud :Craig Scott
RT464: Bass, Acoustic, Bossa Ev 140, Neil Swainson
RT470: Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm Bossa Ev 140, Miles Black
RT406: Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 136, Jason Roller (**)
M50: Slow Strings

So, just to eliminate any other things. I closed BiaB.. Re-Opened it.

1) Create empty test-folder.
2) Select "New", and choose the =BRT_PBG style.
3) Give it a Title; Assign the start/end values (9-159); # of choruses = 1
....Check guitar-track setting = #406...OK!
4) Set key to Bb; set tempo to 174 (All of these settings are the values for the problem song)...
....Check guitar-track setting = #524... Ooops...

For awhile I tried creating it from scratch and then copy/pasting the chords in from the older version; then pulling up the "Bar Settings (F5) screen and clicking on the "Clear All Settings" button, thinking that would let me cheat... But even though it started out with 406/guitar-track, it would revert to 524...

With this last test, I didn't even copy/paste anything. I start with an empty track, for a couple of steps it's okay at #406... But at some point during the setup, it reverts to 524 before I can even start entering chords...

OK, I'm running out of ideas...

UPDATE:

Rachel:

I tried turning off the "Allow RealTracks substitution based on tempo"... in the Song Settings page, and that seems to have done it! I guess as soon as I changed the default tempo of the style to: 174, that was triggering the change!!

Well, dang! After using this thing for 7 years, I learned yet something ELSE new!!!

Thank you SO much for hanging with me as I worked through this!

LJ

There is also a global setting for swapping in RT Settings. It is usually best to let BIAB do the swapping for you unless you have a good reason to override it.

Rachael,

That was very clever of you to pick that one up. It by-passed me.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
