It would be nice if I select track that includes the non-recorded blank space at the beginning of the track plus audio recorded later in the track, to be able to highlight all of it and when selecting Consolidate, it creates the silent WAV form at the beginning of the track. This allows me to export my audio to a WAV file for processing in a different program (Melodyne, perhaps), and then bring it back in at 1:1:0 and not have to worry about lining things up.

Currently, I have to find some blank space (just a little bit) and copy/paste it to the beginning of the track (1:1:0). When I do that, it consolidates the little bit of (blank) WAV form plus the non-recorded area plus the recorded area all into one contiguous WAV form.

Basically, I'm asking that whatever I highlight be consolidated.

I hope that made sense.

In RB, one of the ways I do it, John, is open the AudioEdit window on the particular track. Then click on "Select Whole" - it highlights even the blank spaces beginning to end. Then go to Tracks Menu | Consolidate.

That's the easiest way.

Doesn't do it on mine. If there is no data from 1:1:0 until the audio wav form starts, I can only get it to consolidate from the beginning and including all the wave form(s) if I insert some audio data at the beginning of the track. Didn't work using Audio Edit, or from the Tracks window.

Select Whole and Consolidate works here in both Tracks and Edit window
2012 build 6
Even with blank space at beginning of generated tracks

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Two different computers; it does not create a contiguous WAV form from the beginning to the end. RB 2012 build 6.

So, what's different?

Just so I'm clear; consolidate works, but if there is no WAV form at the beginning, the consolidation only shows from where the WAV form starts (and it fully consolidates from that point on), but not from 1:1:0. I think I showed that in my graphics.

Whoops; you're right.
Must have had something on the tracks I tried previously because I verified it by looking at the Event list and it showed the audio starting at 1-1-0 (even though it visually looked like they started later).
This time is behaved as you stated.
Strange - it used to work the other way. If From-Thru is set to full track it should work.

The alternative is to use Track - Save Track to File, which asks if you want to include the silence at the beginning, and works as expected.

Yes this is an old problem. I got caught with this problem once when transferring a final wave file to a CD Folder and wondered where the normal gap at the start of each song had gone. Of course I had made a number of CDs before I found the answer.

I also wonder why, when Consoldating, You need to enter a range with the arrows only to find out that you may not be consolidating the whole track. For my purposes I would remove the Range Window as unnecessary.
