The Axe Shack Keyboard Korner DAW Drive - The digital age Rack'n'Roll - The analog days And this one.... my friend got a new (used) piano Friday. He had his used (used) piano delivered to me. Love the wood in the piano. It's absolutely beautiful. What a generous friend.

Quite a setup there Eddie. You're going to end up with the same problem I have...the curse of the home studio...wires everywhere! Glad to see you moving again with your music!

Do you have any acoustic room treatments anywhere? I have been looking into that topic lately and it can be quite confusing.

I don't. I am also researching that but if you talk to 10 people you get 10 opinions. Someone (maybe Scott) sent me a link to some low cost foam. I would pass that link along if I could find it....

Here's an ebay guy that might be good: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280883592457 ($200 + $50 s/h) Most of the guys at audio sites seem to push rigid fiberglass (Corning 703 or 705), but this looks simpler. Unknown if it is better though.

a friend of mine manages a KINKOS/FEDEX store. They get stuff all the time that is packed with egg crate foam. They just throw it away! If you stop at one one of these stores and talk to the manager, he/she may be able to redirect this foam to you. I got a whole pickup truck load of boxes filled with the foam, and I had to tell him to stop saving it because my basement was filling up
The product this particular FEDEX gets that is packed in such foam is medical supplies... so if you check with local medical supply stores, you may find a similar source of foam.
Naturally, the pieces are cut to fit specific boxes, so sizes vary.

Very soon, Don. Starting to get my mojo and swagger back. There are 8 on Soundcloud, 4 more rattling around my head. Praying to someday have something in there to stop them from rattling, but that's another post.
1 is about finally admitting I like country music. Another is about saying goodbye to someone I hated to say goodbye to. Another is about how much different (better) life became when I quit drinking. #4 is still on the drawing board but it's about a guy and his FWB girlfriend that is intended to be funny.
I really like the journey more than the destination. The storytelling, making lyrics fit... so much so that the end result is almost anticlimactic. When it's done, it's like "Yeah. Another song. Next."

Eddie, if you ain't plush for Loonies, you might consider an isolation booth concept. All the same materials, just much less of it. Just saying...
Your setup indicates that you are good with your hands. You will come up with a fabulous booth. BTW, you are a fine physical specimen!

Don, I picked up a set of folding closet doors and stapled a moving mat to them and when I place it against an existing door, I have a nice isolation area that allows me to record vocals without hearing a lot of the room. In fact, when I do use it I normally run a long headphone cord over and turn the room off completely. I still want the vocals to be totally anechoic so I can control any reverb I might want to add electronically.

I just noticed that you have a by-God full-height relay rack for your equipment! Where did you come up with that, and how did you pay less than a year's inkums for it?

I was looking through Craigslist and found it for $95. It was 2 hours away in Columbus so I had to borrow a van, but it was a nice drive down and back.

I had guessed that you'd be way ahead of me. My life story. I worked for a major appliance dealer and refrigerators came in huge boxes lined with 1" styrofoam sheets. Excellent sound barriers. May be some place to check. Home Depot, Lowes, etc. They just throw it away anyway.

I thought a lot about this and this is the conclusion I came up with. I can't think of 5 times that I recorded live play or vocal and did NOT use headphones. It's either Real Band or direct inputs with the room monitors off. My studio is upstairs away from traffic, and my dog doesn't bark so there isn't a lot of outside noise. I built the gobo mainly to make the vocal environment dead and that thick moving blanket did the trick.

@Ryszard,
The equipment rack stuff is quite cheap on surplus. You can even find folks giving this stuff away usually. Particularly IT server places that are downsizing.
You should have some local surplus stores that could sell you one of these pretty darn cheap.
