The past few weeks have been very hectic for me. Going through a change in my work situation, etc. But I finally had time to sit down and finish a new song this weekend. It's mostly RealTracks/RealDrums. I also played some keyboards (organ, brass, and a variety of other sounds). All the vocals are me. I hope you enjoy this one!

Steve,

What great song, the story with your lyrics, your vocals, the music
production. Love the break, then the ending, was almost a surprise.

You did a nice job on putting all of this together.

Hope your job change is not too drastic ?

Thanks for you hard work and sharing with us!

Hi Steve,
I've been away for a while but just heard your song.
It is very very good.
I like how you come up with Real Tracks that fit well together.

On my sound system (Bose 3 companion) the volume of the song is a little too harsh, it needs backing off just a little, perhaps lower the ceiling just a db.

Well done.

Best regards
George

Nice song Steve,

I love the vocal harmony. I struggle with that part.

I really like the "Aaaahhhh aaaaahhhh aaaaahhhh" bridge after the 1st chorus.

mighty fine sounding mix and great use of the biab tracks. good singing and harmonies, too. The horns were an excellent addition. You're a mixologist!

Steve,

Love the song. Your vocal really stands out on this one - a bit more aggressive and sounding strong. I also think the mix and arrangement are superb... very nice job all around.

Frank,

Thanks so much! Glad you like it. My job change is pretty drastic to me. But I guess it's kind of like "minor" surgery - it's only minor when someone else is getting cut on!

Tim,

Thank you! As always, I truly appreciate your time and comments.

Robert,

Thanks! I really enjoy your work as well! I always look forward to your next song.

Steve

George,

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen and comment on this one! I have listened to this on several systems, and when I compare it to other "professional" cd's that I have (from multiple genres) it doesn't seem to be any louder or harsher than the ones I have compared it to. Maybe it's louder in Scotland? Again thank you, and welcome back!

Sinbad,

Again, thank you very much! When I look back on some of the songs I've written, I wish I would have toiled on them for 20 years, myself!

Tommy,

Thank you, my friend! Glad you like this one!

Skyoma,

I appreciate your comments. Glad you like the harmonies. That's the fun part of putting the song together for me - can also be the most challenging part!

MountainSide,

Thanks so much! I do enjoy writing, and wish I had more time to do it! The tools that Band In A Box has given us really makes it easier, though!

Kevin,

Thank you very much for your comments! I was hoping the horns would fit in, and not be too much of a distraction. Glad you like it!

Robert,

Thanks! As always, I appreciate your comments. After I was so sick back in December, it has taken me months to get more strength back in my "naturally mellow" voice. I feel like I am just now getting back to where I can do some of this type of music.

Another winner Steve, very enjoyable indeed! Great song, arrangement and delivery.
I shall have to explore that RT drum kit - I don't like the sound of the RD kits as a rule but that one sounds great. I loved the brass sounds; what did you make them with?

Ha Ha!! Maybe it's the whisky that makes it sound louder

I didn't mean to come across negatively.
On reflection it could just have been that I have a new sound system that I have yet to get to grips with.
I found that the bass boom-box has a control and once turning that down it sounded much better.

Keep em' comin'

Best regards
George

John,

Thanks so much! I like the more natural sound of this RealDrum too. I have been using a little different method on my RD's lately. I use 3 tracks - one with eq and compression to fit the mix (and sometimes another plugin or 2 as needed, such as Waves Transx to add some more punch), a second track with some reverb tails on it, usually set back in the mix to make it subtle (been doing this all along), but the 3rd track is flat with no eq, and moved "to the right" a few milliseconds, to fatten up the sound - then bring the 3rd track up very subtly in the mix, just enough to add body. Seems to bring the kick alive in the mix a little more, without making it "louder"

As to the horns, some of the horns are loops (from Logic), but I doubled the loop parts with some midi brass sounds (Logic), playing note for note what the loop was playing, but an octave lower to add depth. Then I added several more various brass parts, (all midi VSTi from Logic again). Then stir in some reverbs and delays, and simmer till ready!

Thanks again!

MountainSide,

Thanks again! I "layer" my background vocals - I record each part usually 3 times (on 3 separate tracks), then "space" them out (panning) to fill up the mix. Makes the vocals sound fuller, not louder. It's not unusual for me to have 12-18 tracks of just background vocals. (Sounds much more tedious than it is. I usually do most all my background vocals in one take, each, as long as I pronounce all the words right. )

George,

lol! I didn't take it as negative. I appreciate your input! Thanks once again!

Steve

Steve, in a word: WONDERFUL! Sounds fabulous on my desktop speakers. How does one improve on perfection? Michie's (George's) kilts were just billowing in the wind, me thinks.
