I guess I'm missing a fundamental routing step. I rightclick on the track header and change the track type to midi . Somewhere I figured out how to select a VSTi and record some MIDI .
This is where iget annoyed...."save audio to track ##?"
If I answer no the track eventually gets corrupted and the program crashes. Its sneaky though...it'll accept the answer of "no" once or twice. Then later its asked a few times and ,incidentally ,it increments the track for the audio....bang. gone.
So I've taken to answering. "Yes". It sprays audio tracks all down te page...but at least it doesn't crash.
I tried searching help and posts here, but I got nothin .....isn't there a way to set up a permanent track for the audio of this particular MIDI track?
Or better yet, how about don't ask me about storing audio...I mean the whole point of the MIDI track is to pick an instrument, record some MIDI ,then maybe change instruments later...in which case u would (I guess) have to find the various takes of audio and...what?...delete em?
Seems to me that I SHOULD BEable to say "no" to saving the audio...or turn off the offer in some pref screen . Just seems weird that the audio is defaulted into every MIDI operation....ought to be the opposite ...midi is midi. UNLESS u wanna render the underlying synthesis ahdio
