I bought my wife an Ipad. Actually she really wanted it. That is a serious part of my post. Other than the health bit.

I have to admit. That's one tight piece of gear. Well done. Works perfectly. Photos are amazing.

My neuropathy is off and on with respect to my hands. Too shaky or jerky to type many days. Probably 50% of the time. Even playing keyboards, I need huge concentration. Makes my shoulder muscles ache from whatever I do to stick with it.

So grabbing the ipdad and checking the forums is a snap. Same with my photo forums. And the newspaper, amazing. I can pinch the type bigger, whereas I need lots of natural light to read without +2 glasses.

So I'm about, following things. Grinning. But to type a message on a ticky pad, even on the Ipad. Maybe not so much. I took typing in Grade 9, early in the '60's. One guy, 31 girls. Ha. Bookeeping, Accounting, Business Practice, Shorthand, and French. 90's and up. The others, well unless it was a one shot multiple choice test, I'd get 90. The ones where you got marks for haircuts, sitting up, being nice, and kissing teacher's butt, I'd get 16. (My history record.) Next year, multiple choice, I get 98. Go figgure.

So, new office coming. I helped with the base coat yesterday. Rug and actual paint coming. New furniture ordered. Budget contains cash for ...(hold on), best Apple system on the market. The wife's call. I'm home alone from 7 to 6 when she pries herself from the executive offices and makes her way home.

I get 25' by 12 feet for my 'studio', complete with all my gear in one place.

Such is life when the last 2 kids depart. One in England, and one who lurks in the north end, figuring our reasons to borrow our car.

I'm considering breaking down and getting a Volkswagen Van. Peel off flowers.

My hair, always in a military cut for 30 years now looks like Willie Nelson's. It's no fun in the wind, hair comes out of that pony tail and blows around my face.

So much for the update. I just realized it, I burned myself in the shower again. My scalp is really red. Oh well, it's not too bad, and it sure isn't the first time.

Now I'm stuck with too much time, enough money to afford apple computers, and bad hair.

If my kids all put themselves on a strict pay back Mom and Dad the cash the borrowed I'd get a dang Mercedes SUV thing...

john,
that was quite a summary! A lot more there than an Ipad3 review.

I hate that you are having to deal with all of the things that are happening... but I must say, your spunk in the face of physical discomfort is admirable. My hat is off to you. You're a better man than I am.

Pat, if I was young I'd invest in Corning. Windows 8 is going touch interface big time. Computers will be tablets soon. Gorilla Glass. The next revolution.

Touch typists are passe. No one seems to learn it. They should redo the keyboard, but no one would agree on how. Pfft.

I'm still playing in my band. I'm Joey Di. Speak Softly in Jazz Funk. 10 verses. Sometimes I go for a Canada Dry in the middle. But my Band, in the Box, keeps on truckin'.

John,

I think you're right on this. But it's probably already too late to get a good price on the stock.

Well if speech recognition can understand my voice it's prime time. I speak like 20 miles of gravel road, and at times it's in and out. Somedays for an hour or so I speak so so, the rest of the time, I rest my voice.

I can't write, my hands (and a lot of other things) cramp badly, the one thing I can do is type very well.

So the Ipad lets me read 3 newspapers in the morning, check both our emails, and read 4 or 5 forums.

The actual 'computer' is on a desk behind my keyboard, on another level of the house.

My wife uses stumbleupon when she's watching baseball. Some other site women use, a portal of some sort that says eat raw orange pistachios from the Amazon and blueberry yogurt and you live 3.5 days longer than people with bell bottom pants. That's an alleged FACT JACK.

I eschew the nuts. I came back from a summer in Montreal in '65 with bell bottom pants and got laughed at to no end. 6 months later mine were broken in and the rest had new ones. Nice.

I'm not going to the gym. I played at a nursing home yesterday and I don't want to live an extra 3.5 days. Most of the audience were drooling and dreaming about the door code to break out and go to the ... I forget.

Pat,

With the quantum leaps that our technologies help create,
it is hard to even imagine what is coming.

Its very interesting with $$$$$ a good deal of what is shown
is possible.

Keeping in mind being "Droned" will be part of the new world.

One weakness mankind currently has in this regards "BandWidth".

Thanks for sharing the Vid!

Good purchase of the iPad3 John. The resolution of the screen is stunning for pictures. Battery life is amazing... I've had mine on standby for about a month, and it still fires up.

Have Fun!

Thanks! We both get a lot of use out it. Being able to pinch zoom so I don't need my glasses is great. I use it all day, my wife is still working away.

I bought her an Itunes card and she grabbed some tunes.

There are sites it just does not do well, those with dedicated videos embedded, but for the most part it's just very very easy to use, and easy on the eyes.

There are also sites with no place to put your finger. So you can't scroll them very easy.

I'm now considering (maybe) an apple computer for the new office we are making in a bedroom we had children for many years. The last one left 10 minutes, (I mean 6 months ago). LOL

It's very quiet. And I don't need to be quiet.

Doesn't do Flash or Java. You can make it do Flash if you Jailbreak and get an external Flash viewer, or the Skyfire browser.

I use my iPad for streaming music and/or videos from my laptop to my iPad so if I want to watch something in bed I can do it on the iPad. One is called Stream To Me (audio) and the other is called Air Video (videos). A server goes on a computer where the files live and the client goes on the iPad. Beautiful program and works well. Also if you happen to have DirecTv there is an iPad plugin that lets you watch DirecTv on your iPad. (All contingent on you having a wireless network in your house.)

My iPad3 has replaced the discontinued Frontier Design Tranzport. With an app called Splashtop Streamer, I control the production PC from the studio. I get even more powerful remote control over SONAR from an app called V-Control Pro.

About TV on the iPad (and I regard TV as the enemy of my composing time), I have Cablevision, which provides an app that can play live TV shows or remote-control the TV. Pretty cool.
