Click on 'pref' (bottom,far right), OR hit ctrl + e, or click on the 'Opt.' menu item, then choose 'preferences' . Then click on 'MIDI options' (third button from left, top row). The right hand side of the dialog that comes up allows you to control patch changes.
For example, I un-tic 'drum patch changes' because I use Sampletank and a drum patch change usually brings up grand piano lol.
