see this thread for my personal experience of this infection last year.

To cut a long story short, I finished up installing an image backup of the infected pc.

There was a thread about this problem here, but I think it is no longer accessible. The dominant trend among the responses received was to try using non-Windows based virus removal tools.

If your experience is the same as mine (which it may well not be) you will also see something quite strange.
With no instances of Internet Explorer running, examine the processes tab in task manager. If you have two ‘phantom’ instances of iexplore.exe running, then it’s time to panic!
