I just bought a new computer ( Dell XPS) and it has a realtec sound card in it. I'm getting real frustrated trying to make it work. When I record, it records in mono on one side of Power Tracks Pro and cannot hear the music on my monitor. I can't seem to do anything that I used to do with my creative sound card on my old computer. I need help from any one using this setup. Thanks occ

I do believe that all the newer internal cards record in mono only. So you'll need to just set tracks in PTs to mono and pan as needed.

occ,

I had/still have a realtek sound add-on to my Vista HP pc.
Screwed round and round with it. Came to conclusion with some help
to install my Audigy 2 ZS soundcard in the system.

The main problems I had were levels. The Audigy Card works just fine, albeit
Creative driver content suffers for the newer O.S. system.
Ha Vista is now old.

I "had" the Audigy, so used it, but maybe you'd be better off with an
external USB unit.

Several members are using them.

Good Luck!

Hi Occ,

I use the Realtek and really have no problem. It does only record on only one side of the stereo track. I've gotten used to that by simply splitting the tracks and then combining them back to stereo.

However, I do hear the other tracks as I'm recording. I believe there is a check for that in the audio setup dialogue.

I would be happy to compare settings with you, if you think that might help.

EDIT

I did some checking.

The "Audio Settings" tab has a check for full duplex recording. With this unchecked, I cannot hear my tracks as I record. With it checked, I can.

There is also a check for right or left tracks or both. With the right or left box checked, it records on the selects channel only. With the L+R (2 tracks) selected I recorded on both channels at one time.

God Bless,

Don S.

Hi Don S.

Does this mean that a left and right stereo track can't be recorded anymore?
I have a guitar with let's say ping pong delay. Back and forth L to R, it can't be recorded?
I'm curious. I have Win7 64 with Conexant HD Audio and it records Stereo. I tested it after reading this.
I have a Dell Inspiron 620, i5. So far so good. I use stereo when recording old tapes too.
Maybe I'm not understanding this. Only mono?

Hi Wayne,

In the Realband audio settings: Using 1 mic, you have the choice of the input being recorded on the right or left track. if you have a stereo track, one half will be blank.

Using the L+R (2 track) option: Using 2 mics, I recorded on the right and left simultaneously.

OCC said that he couldn't hear his background tracks while recording. Checking the full duplex option in the audio settings takes care of that.

I hope that helps. I'm not the best on terminology.

Good luck,

Don S.

The new internal soundcards only have a mono mic input. No more stereo line in.You need to go into the prefs and set the recording to a left and right stereo track but this does nothing for you in reality.

John,

I guess the key words would be "new internal soundcards."

My Realtek internal card is about 5 years old and works as described.

Thanks Don! I have it recording now but only mono. it doesn't seem to matter if I set power trscks on right, left or L&R. I now can hear the music as T record my voice thanks to Don. I really don't like this card. And when I play keyboard to insert midi, there is so much latency that I can't use it. My Creative card had the builtin synths that would play without latency. What can I do about this. I still need help!! 0cc

Hi John,
Do you mean Laptops or Desktops or both.
My wife's laptop has no Line-In, but my desktop has a Line-in.
They are both 6 months old. New Dells.

OCC,

As I remember, i had a big problem when I went from a Creative card that had built-in midi to the Realtek. Of course this was 5 years ago.

I ended up getting the "E-mu Xmidi1X1" USB cable.

I also reroute the output to the Coyote Forte Dxi. (I'm not sure if that matters or not)

That pretty much takes care of latency. (Unless it is of my own making ).

Keep Plugging.

Don S.
