Were you guys using the whole suite or just the anti-virus?
Eddie,
I was using Norton Systems Works. Two versions. I started with Win 95 and then Win 98. I finally realized that the majority of my computer problems were caused by Norton. I also found out that the uninstaller doesn’t remove it. I had to get a third party removal tool and also manually delete things from the registry.
I swore then that I’d never use another Norton product.
MS Sec. Ess. is the only virus program I’ve ever had that made me forget I had one installed.
YMMV.

Removal IS a pain. They have a "Clean Sweep" tol to remove it now, but I don't know about back then. I do use MSS on my studio PC. Not a bad product at all. Just that I have NAV with an unlimited Enterprise level license so I use it to death to get my moeny's worth. (I am Slovenian, and we are cheap.)
I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.
1. How much did you make in 2023? 2. Send it to us.

IMO Norton is a resource hog and will never be installed on my DAW.
I use MS Essentials. very low footprint, very unintrusive. no complaints from it.
I agree with bobflatpicker - MS Security Essentials is the only virus program I've ever had that I forgot was installed.

Per Eddie1261, Quote:
Everybody with a connected computer needs to learn that "know what I am doing" part.
I do know the difference. I still do snarky stuff sometimes, but I have a PC for the purpose, which allows me to be brave and stupid. Doesn't matter if I have to wipe the hard drive and start over.
Now, on the theory that someone will just have to touch the paint in spite of the sign that says not to, I enjoin you NEVER to go to 2600.com using a PC that means anything to you. It's a cracker site (what people really mean when they say "hacker"). The one time I did in the late 1990s I had to pull the power cord to stop the destruction. I could see system files being erased from Windows Explorer as I watched . . . I'm still pretty brave, just not that stupid. I think.
In the early days I would have kissed Peter Norton on the mouth. Their pitch was that they gave you the control that Microsoft didn't--like the ability to recover files. It was with regret that I watched the control being taken away and the program become the bloatware that has been described.
To come back to the topic, I use Avast on my laptop and MSE on my DAW. As far as I can tell the latter is utterly transparent.
"My primary musical instrument is the personal computer."

I jettisoned Norton after some fraudulent Norton assault -> Right after some system crash, which b.t.w. did not require a fresh system installation, Norton asked and required me to purchase a new license, *in spite* of some 7 months valid license duration right before this nasty system crash. Norton, you had your chance, yet this was it ...
Cruising with Avast now.
