Is there someone out there who knows where to go to find a forum (for example for Photoshop)
to try to find information and inspiration about CD insert layouts.

Best regards

I use Oasis for duplication, and they have a full set of templates for layouts for various graphic software. Their free catalog also shows many great examples. I'm pretty sure the full catalog is downloadable as a PDF.

Jewell cases are a real pain, though. Many of mine have cracked while transporting them to gigs, and then they are only useful as free promos. Next time, I may go to a different case style. Those are also described in the Oasis catalog.

Also, be aware that a coming trend is inexpensive download cards that give the buyer access to your tracks on digstation.com. These are fantastic to take to gigs. My CD will be there very shortly.

Diskmakers is another vendor besides Oasis. Actually, they both use the same plant to manufacture the CD.

Diskmakers has a lot of different packages, etc. There are a lot of other sites which can also do this sort of work for you.

I have had good success with doing a few CDs, inserts, and labels myself. However, this is only viable for a few at a time, and you must buy the CDs which have a printable coating on them for best results. Some ink jet printers can print on the CDs with very nice results, except that without a waterproof coating or ink the image can smear if it gets wet.

Plastic jewel cases are notoriously fragile when mailing, but there are some very nice folding paper ones which look good and are pretty durable. I suggest that you cruise around the net looking for outfits which can provide these services for you.

Presenting your work in a professional manner makes a great impression. You might also look into some promotional items. I recently had some t-shirts printed with my blues alter ego artwork and text at very reasonable prices.

In any event, the very best of luck to you and congratulations!

I have made some juvelcase insert graphics with acseptable result I think, but to find new ideas for the "front page" (Picture, The style of the writing etc. generate a loooot of work.I made my inserts with Photoshop.
So I was more looking for a forum where people was discussing layout and graphic work, and where it was possible to get some adwise and help with the graphic layout on the juvel case insert.

Oh, I see. Yes, layout is a whole different discussion. Maybe a user forum for Adobe Photoshop? Good luck.

Tono,

Discmakers has layout templates for a few different programs on their site here: http://www.discmakers.com/templates/download.asp The templates are free.

Regarding actual design services for the content of the layouts, Discmakers also has that going if you want to pay for it.

If you want to find an inexpensive source for doing your CD layout, look to the design department at a local art school. Or find some local independent artists that have released CDs that you like the graphic design. Normally if the graphic designer is worth their salt - they will have contact information included.

Hello Tono.

I use neato jewel case inserts and their mediaface software. It is inexpensive and produces great results. It is supplied with plenty of images and symbols including barcode that can be inserted and manipulated along with excellent text options. You can also import your own artwork of course.

All the CDs on my website (below) were done with this if you want to see look on the CD page.

Hope this helps,

Dave.
