Invoking dxplug^.exe by the menu
Edit/Audio Effects/DirectX Audio Plugins
results in
"Access Violation at address [different each time]. Read of access [different each time]."
This is a big deal.
How can I get this working again?

A few questions -
What version of Power Tracks are you using and do you have all the up-date patches loaded?
When you go to EDIT-AUDIO EFFECTS do you see the list of available PLUG-INS before you select DIRECT X AUDIO PLUG-INS? If so, can you select one from the list instead of going to DIRECT X AUDIO PLUG-INS?
Does this happen on all tracks of all songs?
This information will help us to work out what's happening here.

Sorry, I got impatient.
Wiped Power Tracks completely from the computer and did a fresh install.
It fixed the problem (but what an ordeal).
Not recommended, except as a last resort.
Version is PT2012 build 1.

Except that re-installing takes all of 3 minutes, versus hours of trying to figure out what's wrong. Just sayin'.

Three minutes?
Not when your files use a slew of VSTis and you have to go back and re-register them ONE BY ONE.

John's right. Re-installing is often the quickest way to solve a problem.
If you make a safety copy of the Power Tracks folder, all you need to do is delete the Pt folder and replace it with the safety copy - about three minutes, as John said. All the plug-in registrations would be preserved.
It's a good idea to keep your VST folder in the Pt folder and then, if you have any problems, the safety copy will re-load those as well.
