Greetings all. I am new here.

I am creating a style and I have a 2 measure (8 beat) piano pattern. I am finding that the pattern
needs to start on an odd numbered measure in order to play as it was set up in the pattern editor.
If a new chord change begins on an even numbered measure, the pattern begins playing on that even
numbered measured and then begins again on the very next measure. So if it begins on an odd numbered
measure, it plays as a two bar pattern. But if it starts on an even numbered measure, it plays as a
one bar pattern for that measure and then plays as a two bar pattern beginning with the next measure.

Does a two bar pattern always align itself with odd/even measure pairs, for example measures 1 and 2,
measures 3 and 4, measures 7 and 8, etc?

Or is there a way to force the pattern to begin with a chord change regardless of the chord change position?

You might want to try looking at the weights assigned each pattern. I don't know if you can do exactly what you want to do, but look at the options for a weight of 9. 9 is a special weight that has conditions applied to it. However, I don't think it looks at odd/even bar numbers so much as it looks at how many bars from the previous part marker. But that's where I would look first.

Thanks!

I did some experimenting, and it does look like patterns are referenced to the most recent part marker. I can force the song to "reset" the reference point just by setting the measures to 'substyle a' where the two bar pattern is needed.

Also, changing the weight made no difference.

The song has an extra measure at the ends of some parts. Just when you expect the next part to start, you have one more measure yet. Sort of like the extra 2 beats that are often used in country and bluegrass, except these are 4 beats. Probably never would have noticed the problem if the song was different.

A weight of 9 is the only "special" weight where you can specify exactly where a pattern is to be played, based on the mask you assign it. Any other weights (1-8) merely determine how often one pattern plays in relation to another pattern in the same row.

I should explain better.

I am not trying to force a particular 2 bar pattern to play; it's actually the only piano pattern in the style right now. It always plays.

The problem is that it may or may not play the second bar in the pattern, depending on which measure a 2 bar chord is entered on. If a one bar chord is entered, the pattern will play it's first bar, as if it were a one bar pattern, and that is what should happen, I believe. If a two bar chord is entered on the 1st, 3rd, 5th measure etc, the pattern plays as a 2 bar pattern, again as it should.

However, if a 2 bar chord is entered on the 2nd, 4th, 6th measure etc, it plays as a one bar pattern for the 1st bar in the chord and again as a one bar pattern for the second bar of the chord. It looks like this:

This chord entry:

| C ----- | ------ | C ----- | ------ |

plays like this (as expected):

| pattern bar 1 | pattern bar 2 | pattern bar 1 | pattern bar 2 |

This chord entry:

| C ----- | C ----- | ------ | C ----- | ------ |

plays like this (not as I would expect):

| pattern bar 1 | pattern bar 1 | pattern bar 1 | pattern bar 1 | pattern bar 1 |

Now I can add part markers somewhere before the two bar chord so that the two bar chord begins on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, or 7th measure, but it seems to be roundabout way of getting it to play correctly. Also, masks are set to 0 for this pattern.

Apparently, the first bar in a two bar pattern will play anywhere; the second bar will only play when the first bar is on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, or 7th measure. Possibly there is a reason for this, but I can't find any reference to it.
