Yes, Fences slows down the startup process -- after all it is an additional layer on top. I keep my boxes small so not all icons are visible. Also as Mac stated: I keep my desktop rather clean. But my wife does put a lot of stuff on the desktop. Mostly this is temporary, but still ...

I live with that little disadvantage of a slowed down start of the pc. My own work process is more efficient because icons stay where I put them.

You are also right, one cannot sort automatically the remaining icons. But I don't have use for that feature anymore, so I didn't miss it.
