Bob, I can see(hear) where this song would be fantastic as a theme song, but: Its just great music period. Your style, this style of music reminds me a bit of older westerns. Then it hit me maybe along genre of "Spaghetti Westerns". Not being trivial an anyway, compliments intended. Yours to me is more polished and better music. http://www.pollodelmar.com/mart/morricone/ few examples here, thought you might be interested. Can just see "Young Clint" riding off down the road with this song in the background. Again thanks for sharing your hard work.

@Frank...I though about putting a few gunshot clips in there...haha. Just kidding. But you're right. All those old spaghetti westerns Clint made have a similar vibe. I can see/hear something like this in any "cool guy" flick, like Bond or something. I still don't know what they're going to use my "Leaving Tonight" song for. But a TV/Movie music supervisor has it right now. Can take anywhere from two weeks to two years for them to get back to you. I don't care how long it takes if it gets used...and maybe an oscar or a grammy...LOL. (Dream on, Bob) Anyway, this stuff is certainly fun to play with. Who knows if it ever goes anywhere. Thanks everyone for your kind comments. A Facebook friend/musician posted last night that he was watching a James Bond flick and listening to this song on Facebook. Said it fit in great with the "cool" vibe of the movie. The he said "Think about it." Like I could force 'em to use it. Such is life. We make music because we love it mostly.

Haha...not much science here...I just play a few of them and pick the one that I like personally. In this case I also tried a Fender Custom Shop Subsonic Telecaster, and a Fender '62 Reissue Jaguar. I almost used the Jag because of it's unusual tone. Has a real "surfing" sound to it, and a locking tremolo so you can bend strings and not pull the rest out of tune . The Subsonic was really LOW down but in the end the tone of the Nashville Tele won me over. I find I use that guitar a lot, probably 90% of the time. I also have another Nashville Tele that doesn't have the active electronics. Both are pretty reasonably priced at around $700 or less, street price. The Subsonic and the Jaguar are $1,500 guitars. But the proof is in the sound, not in the price. There's a new Fender Blacktop Baritone Telecaster that I'm currently interested in which costs only $499. Two single coils and a humbucker in the bridge position. Can't wait to play one. Still searching for the holy grail of tone.

Bob,
I generally love your stuff. You are the consummate pro in all things musical. The tone and concept of this song was right on the money. The playing and mixing was great as usual for you.
But I thought it got boring very quickly because you didn't do ANYTHING to change it up! After the first 30 seconds there was nothing new!
Maybe that's desirable for a song that plays while moviegoers are exiting the theater and credits are rolling... but for a listening experience it didn't work for me.
Failing to change things up is generally characteristic of newbie compositions, and you are certainly not that. My respect for your abilities is sky high, and my reaction to this song does not change that. The only reason I commented at all is because of cognitive dissonance.

Pat..you're right on. It depends what (or who) the song is being created for as to how it's arranged. Writing for TV/Movies etc. they usually only use about 30-60 seconds of the song anyway, and they specifically ask for music that would not conflict with a voiceover. We have another listing on here, "Leaving Tonight" that's done in this same fashion and it WAS chosen by TAXI.com over a lot of competition to be promoted to LA TV/Movie music directors. Only 6% of submissions get forwarded by TAXI to TV/Movie execs. If I were to put this song on an album I would add other instruments and probably write a bridge. Might even modulate to a new key for the last verse and chorus. But for this particular listing they wouldn't even hear it...or care. In some cases monotony is beautiful...especially when it PAYS. Richard...boy, you got THAT right. Knopfler carries his tone around in his hands...literally. I play 5-string banjo, and some people put a lot of stock in the sound of vintage banjos, more specifically like the 1928 Gibson Granada that Earl Scruggs played. However, one writer noted that any banjo Earl Scruggs played would sound like a '28 Granada!! Guess I better get to practicing, eh?

Pat...you're awfully kind. I have to work so hard at this music thing that I never think of myself as a "pro." Just a guy busting his hump to get something nice put together that folks will like. But I really enjoy helping folks improve their writing, or recording, whatever, when I can. I struggled so much with it over the years I can't imagine not sharing tips with folks who are trying to accomplish the same thing. It's just fun for me to see people make progress. I've been teaching guitar and banjo for nearly 40 years for the same reason. It sure ain't for the little money it provides. BTW...isn't the common wisdom that "..a PRO is someone who's from out of town." ??? Later, Bob

This song is terrific. It's a style I really love. The Knopfler chops are so clean and pure (as they should be), and the twang part is simply 'spot-on'.
It has more of a 'spaghetti western' feel to me for sure, but also conjures up some of that tone The Ventures used to have.
I'll second (or third or fourth) the THANKS for sharing your production/recording tips and your music brilliance with us!

Frank...I think I've posted more than one song at a time on occasion. But I'm usually so busy working in the studio I don't have time to post more than one at a time. And I always post songs separately in a new thread according to the guidelines Peter Gannon set out in his FAQ post: "- Start a new thread with each new song post." But to answer your question, I'm sure posting separately gets more attention for a song. More importantly, I think folks should answer all comments and inquiries about their song individually since every time you do that it moves the song back up to the top of the list and more people will see it. I have to admit that because of time limitations I don't always do that, opting instead to thank everyone at once. But I prefer to acknowledge each comment when I can even if it's only a "thank you" for someone taking time to listen to my work. ....but why do you ask, grasshopper? Bob
