Hi, everyone,
After using BIAB for many years, I just finally began using RealTracks this week and yesterday at church, I experienced a tempo glitch (see my post from last night, "RealDrums Slowed Down Mid-Song".) It affected only the RealDrums while the other tracks played correctly (they were RealTracks, except for Strings on the slow songs).
It was recommended that I freeze the tracks. So I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about the pro's and cons of freezing tracks. I thought the purpose of freezing tracks was just to save a particular generation of a track or song so that it would always play exactly the same way; are there more reasons? I have always enjoyed how BIAB plays songs a little differently each time I play the time with a fresh generation, so if I freeze the tracks, I'll give that up. Seems that I shouldn't have to freeze the tracks to keep this tempo glitch from happening, but if that's the best solution, I'll do it. I do understand that songs with frozen tracks load a little quicker, but that is not an issue for me; the songs without frozen tracks all loaded within 3-4 seconds, and that is fine for me.

I don't freeze tracks; like you,I like the small changes each time.
But I'm still making the assumption you are experiencing a bug, and you should get that solved first.

a quick comment. I read the prior post you reference and I agree something is stange and still not fully figured out. The tempo of real drum tracks should not drift (frozen or not). I suspect a computer glitch. On th otherhand for live perfomrances I freeze everything under the premise that the only band member who is allowed to change the chart ) during performacne (aka screwing-up) is me. Hopefully the congregation was deep in the spirt and didn't notice the drummers lapse.

I just replayed the song (on the same computer) with no glitch, so I froze the RealDrum track only. I'm still interested in hearing more thoughts on freezing pro's and cons and any other ideas about what caused the glitch in the first place. What kind of computer glitch would cause that to happen? I did notice before the set began that the computer display dimmed all by itself a couple of times, and I thought that was strange because all the power options that would allow display changes are set to never do that when plugged in.
One other thing - at the end of the day yesterday when I shut down the new comuter, it installed 5 updates before turning off (it had already installed what seemed like a zillion updates earlier in the week). Even though I turned off the wireless radio before the service began so there wouldn't be any surprises from the Internet, perhaps some updates had already been downloaded but not yet completely installed, waiting to finish upon shutdown and reboot. Do you think this could have caused the glitch?

Jim,
I like to freeze tracks for live performance for a couple reasons:
1st I know the realtrack I am using(mostly horns)to break up the monotony of just my guitar solos will always playback the same, no surprises.
2nd While the realtrack regeneration time has vastly improved with recent versions of BIAB it is at it's fastest when the tracks are frozen.
