PG Music - Can you please take a good look at printing notation for 2013?

There are bugs in the current product that need to be addressed, or better still a way to properly export to a piece of notation software.

The software is adequate but it no longer measures up to the Band in a Box we currently have. It desparately needs an overhaul

Does BB enable you in export an arrangement as a PDF file? I've been able to export as a jpeg. The reason why it would be a good update to be able to do this is because of such PDF readers like ibook, igig book and forscore for your ipad. There is a fantastic app I use everyday on the gig called Forscore. You can assigned a backing track you've created in BB to a lyric sheet or some type of pdf score within the app. One app to do everything on the gig for what I do, (piano/vocalist). Would make a huge difference if you could export a chart or lyrics as a PDF in BB.

You can do it easily if you use a virtual printer like pdf creator:

Dave, the way to export to a dedicated notation program is MIDI.

There is a recent development if you are interested in chords transferring: look at MuseScore. It reads BIAB song files.

To do more, I'm hoping for BIAB to export as Music XML. Perhaps that is what you meant?

Midi is fine, but it doesn't take chords or lyrics as far as I know. Those are KEY for those of us that need notation.

Music XML would be great - I think the notation software out there would do a better job of printing as long as BIAB passes everything.

I still think we will have to do some manipulation for repeats, first and second endings DS al Coda etc, as BIAB treats this as a print function, not as a part of the song. However I am sure it would be worth it. What we have today is probably 6 years old, and hasn't had a pen put to it in that time.

It's time for an update

That's good; it is clear what you are looking for. Yes, let's hope.

Just one correction; MIDI does pass lyrics back and forth. It does not pass chords, however. I do know that BIAB includes chords in a a MIDI file in a proprietary manner; however, pretty much only their own products know how to read that data. I'm sure they would share that information with other vendors, but those other vendors would have to be willing to write support for it within their own code. Probably not going to happen. I'm surprised, though, that since PGMusic does have a relationship with MakeMusic, to include the ability of PrintMusic and Finale to generate BIAB-MIDI harmonies, that PrintMusic or Finale doesn't have the ability to read PGMusic's chord information from a MIDI file.

Anyway, lyrics are there; chords are not.

Either way, I'd love to see Music XML too.

Thanks - I wasn't sure of lyrics. I should have realized as they are part of Karaoke files which are midi-like.

I knew about the relationship with PrintMusic - and it seems strange that they haven't expanded on this opportunity. I would gladly spend the $100 or whatever to have professional grade fake sheets.

I'd like to see BIAB for iPhone add the ability to transpose the chords in the display so that instruments in other keys can read along in their key.

My wishlist consist of:

1. Ability to select a region and apply chord settings for whole region
2. Add solo to specific regions (default it is nowhere)
3. add9 chords! Both minor and major. Why is it not there already???
4 Ability to scroll the chord chart in a normal way, not that the wheel just goes from bar to bar
5. Star playback with dbl click, now it starts playing when you just want to select something, very often
6. Colorize regions for better overview
7. Enter notes in a chord rather than the chord symbols

Add solo to specific regions? In Soloist click on Custom and have a solo where you want it.

I would like to see a midi option for open and close voicings for every track. I would love to have piano, strings, etc. sound more like I want them to sound like. It would be nice if that could also be applied to RTs.

When you are at the checkout line and they ask if you found everything say "Why, are you hiding stuff?"

Please add my voice to the list requesting implementation of Music XML. All of the transcriptions of jazz piano solos that I have done (over 300 full transcriptions at
http://www.bushgrafts.com
have been done using either BIAB or Power tracks. I have found that these programs do a wonderful and quick job of transcribing a solo piano track from a midi file - much quicker than the big names in music transcription - Finale, Sibelius.
But refining the transcription in PG music's programs is only possible up to a point. Music XML would enable export of the transcription from BIAB or Power tracks to a more sophisticated, dedicated notation program so that a much more professional result could be achieved.

I agree with Dave - please update the Notation and printing functions of BIAB. I have been buying updates over the years specifically hoping to find updated notation and printing features. I don't think there has been any update in, what 10 years or so? I mean, RealDrums is cool but my life would be greatly enhanced if you were to update the notaion/printing functions of BIAB. I would be happy to give you a list of suggestions, if you want - certainly one that comes to mind is having 2nd endings on a separate line, so the lines are broken up into odd numbers of measures and parts starting in the middle of a line etc.

Thanks!
Walter
