Im using PTPA 12 Under windows XP sp2 and asio drivers work with 512 latency setting but they are clunky. By that I mean the timing is ragged, sometimes I get loud bursts of noise and I dont see my digital outputs listed and when they are listed they dont work. Im trying hard to get my asio drivers working because I have a couple of vsti that just wont play under WDM drivers.

What soundcard and which ASIO drivers are you using?
At the moment, I can only suggest that you try increasing the buffer size from 512 to 1024 to see if it makes any difference and to make sure you're not using any 64 bit VSTs with 32 bit XP.

They work better because they use larger buffers most of the time.
They also work through Windows core, whereas ASIO circumvents windows and communicates directly.. so the people that create the ASIO drivers are largely responsible for how well they work.
Give us the device name, ASIO drivers and version being used. Maybe somebody here can help.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I never got the Creative ASIO drivers to work with my XP system. Now with Windows 7 and the same creative audigy ZX2 Platinum sound card they work fine.
ASIO drivers come in lots of different forms - some may work and some won't.

Im using a Layla 3g with the recomended echo drivers. I even tried diffetrnt versions of echo drivers same result. Asio4all same result. Even another set of drivers fpm an old interface I no longer use same result. 1024 gave less clunkiness, slightly smoother operation but still cant see use my digital outs. And still get loud bursts occasionally.So Bob you say asio works more smoothly with Windows 7 ? Why is that. I stay away fom 64 bit anything so thats definitely not part of my problem but thanks for the warning.
