You can also click on the audio edit button right below the dxi button which will bring up the edit window. In there you can zoom in to as much detail as you need. Especially useful if you need to make a crucial cut on a zero crossing. You can highlight from there or you can also click on the from - to boxes and type in a precise bar location for where you cut starts and ends. Then use the cut command.

Another thing I've learned to watch in the cut and in the paste command box is the part markers check box. If you're cutting one track and don't want that to effect the part markers for the whole song - leave unchecked. I've gotten my part markers so messed up that I couldn't regenerate a new track that matched the original song layout without a bunch of hassle. So be aware of the checkboxes. LOL!
