I have a problem with the first note in some charts printing too close to the bar line for easy readability.

I have printed other charts where this is not a problem.

I am using the 2012.5 but have had this problem on the 2012 as well.

I have looked over the options several times and don't seem to find any setting that controls this.

Here is a sample of what I am talking about:

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't believe there were any changes made to notation between 2012 and 2012.5.

I have the same problem. As far as I know there is no setting that will change this. If you find a solution, please post.

Check to see if "Engraver Spacing" is on (checked).

On the lead sheet, it is under "Notation Options...", under "Options" (Opt.).
If Engraving Spacing is unchecked (off) it can produce that note spacing.

I am using 2011.

Hi G,

I use BIAB notation all the time. I'm a big fan of it. Maybe I've just been lucky but I haven't experienced the issue you show. I agree with Megafiddle in that it sounds like it might be an "Engraver's spacing" issue. Other than that, I also set my fonts to 80% of full size (as in the image below). Maybe that helps.

(Just in case you can't find these settings, they're in "Opt" found under Notation View. Alternatively, they can be found under the menu "Opt. | Preferences | Notation".)

Hope this helps,
Noel

Are you sure you are not in Editable Notation mode? This produces a result like the one you are complaining about. Just switch to Regular Notation mode.

It takes a while for the 2012.5 Audiophile version on hard drive to get all the way 'down under' and the downloads take too long and use up too much of my download allowance, otherwise I would check it for you.

Also, Engaver Spacing is saved in the preferences file. So if you have a preferences file that you saved and then load in ocassionally, Engaver Spacing could be turned off in that preferences file. If so, just turn it back on and resave the preferences.

Using different preference files could explain why some songs show problem and others don't. I can't find any other settings that happen to also turn Engaver Spacing off as a side effect. Returning to Factory Settings will turn Engaver Spacing on also.

And again though, this is with 2011.

Bingo!

I was in Editable Notation mode, that is why my problem manifestation was so "random", who knew.

Great work guys.

BTW, I did have the Engraver Spacing Enabled.

I've said it before, this is the best forum on the internet I've ever belonged to in both usefulness and the gentlemanly demeanor of you all.

watch out, and don't use the gentleman thing on me. You are lighting me up, pushing my buttons, etc.

I can make rtfm seem like a polite suggestion at a women's tea party with little sandwiches. My brother pinched those, or so I told Mom. I tried to tell her to take out all the bones in the salmon ones but she didn't listen...ewww.
