The key to podcasts on non-iTunes is to have an RSS feed URL for the podcast. Then the end user can choose which program to use to search the URL for the .mp3 file.

I have used two different programs to automatically download podcasts from the internet.

Ziepod http://www.ziepod.com/

and

Juice http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/


I used Juice for a couple of years to download various music show podcasts from public radio stations, then burn the .mp3 files to CDRW that I played in my car.

I started having some issues with it where it seemed to ignore new podcasts on the RSS URLs I had chosen. I have used Ziepod a few times.

The mobile phone aspect of things is almost irrelevant. The key is hosting your podcast .mp3 files somewhere that can populate the RSS URL. iTunes is convenient.
