I have to say that the tracking information from UPS is excellent. As one living down under and waiting with baited breath for my BB 2012.5 Audiophile, I now know:
Scheduled Delivery: Tuesday, 14/08/2012, By End of Day Last Location: Arrived - Seattle, WA, United States, Thursday, 09/08/2012
It's kind of fun tracking it across the world.

14/08/12 is for non-Americans what 08/14/12 is for Americans.
It can get very confusing when the numbers are 12 or less.

Puzzle:
If you don't know which system is being used (mm/dd/yy or dd/mm/yy), how many dates in the year are confusing?
almost forgot: assume 365 day year - non leap year

Re the date format. If you look at your computer settings, you will see that it can be either way. Personally, I'm ambidatestrous, having once lived in Detroit, which strangely was the centre (sorry, 'center') for metrication - another sensible system that Americans have not yet embraced. I must have excited UPS by taking advantage of their tracking information. This morning I received no less than four emails from them advising of the progress of the BB 2012.5 hard drive: The full story: Honolulu, HI, United States 10/08/2012 8:38 Departure Scan 10/08/2012 6:01 Arrival Scan Ontario, CA, United States 10/08/2012 3:41 Departure Scan Botany, Australia 10/08/2012 16:57 Package data processed by brokerage Waiting for clearance / Released by clearing agency Now in-transit for delivery 10/08/2012 16:31 Package data processed by brokerage Waiting for clearance Ontario, CA, United States 09/08/2012 22:39 Arrival Scan Botany, Australia 10/08/2012 14:12 Package data processed by brokerage Waiting for clearance / Released by clearing agency Now in-transit for delivery 10/08/2012 14:12 Registered with clearing agency / Shipment submitted to clearing agency 10/08/2012 14:12 Registered with clearing agency Seattle, WA, United States 09/08/2012 20:11 Departure Scan Botany, Australia 10/08/2012 11:43 Package data processed by brokerage Waiting for clearance Seattle, WA, United States 09/08/2012 18:39 Arrival Scan Richmond, BC, Canada 09/08/2012 17:48 Departure Scan 09/08/2012 17:23 Export Scan 09/08/2012 16:45 Arrival Scan Victoria, BC, Canada 09/08/2012 16:15 Departure Scan 09/08/2012 15:08 Origin Scan Canada 09/08/2012 17:22 Order Processed: Ready for UPS Help! Information overload! But it is getting here. Of course, there could be interruptions due to conditions encountered with weather, volcanic ash clouds, floods, etc. But most of the potential problems were on the Atlantic route via Asia and they seem to have avoided those by going via Honolulu. Anyway, they will tell me if there are any later hold ups. Of that, I am now absolutely sure. What wonderful technology we have these days. But I do hope all that scanning does not do any harm to the data on the hard drive. John, You could be correct about that spelling, however: "The correct spelling is actually bated breath but it’s so common these days to see it written as baited breath that there’s every chance that it will soon become the usual form, to the disgust of conservative speakers and the confusion of dictionary writers." I have always tended to be a bit common.

Anyone who had to do computer based calculations on dates can say with emphasis that y m d h m s is by far the best.
The banking software I wrote for GoodLife Fitness in '84 had a lot of date based stuff. The big mistake for me was 16 years later stuff changed. I got called about a cost in 1999 to fix or confirm my code would work. I told them it would not work. I asked for 1k to fix it.
20 minutes work to go from yymmdd to yyyymmdd in 4 fields, pad the existing dates. All the routines were fine.
I felt guilty and donated the Money to my former partners Autism foundation.
The guy who was programming part time quoted 185,000. A large firm gave them a quote of 590,000. I got it at 1k.
My wife overheard the new accountant tell this at the board room table, calling me an idiot in front of my wife and former partner.
He was terminated on the spot, and the runner up hired. His job lasted 1.3 days. I lasted longer as a pin setter where guys in duck tailed hair cuts tried to kill the skinny kid instead of high scores. I was so scared I was fast. The owner gave me a bonus, he got more games in. I remember Elvis on the juke and hundreds of people all smoking.
The long part of the shipping is getting it off Vancouver Island. Some days the mail kyack hits a headwind.
And they have tea at 4 and go home after. So veddy British on the Island eh?

UPS excelled themselves. They advised a Tuesday by end of day delivery, but here it is 10am on Monday and the package was just delivered!
