OK I choose a Melodist and then go to edit melody. Now since I know zip about chord structure or notes or why there are rest or this or that I just go down the boxes and change all the numbers randomly to get as random of a melody as possible.My problem is when I hit play over and over the melody pretty mush sounds the same as before. I check the notes being written on the staff and they look like there in different spots, but yet the melody still has a sameness about it.What am I doing wrong and how do I actually get a more random selection of melodies within the same style or is that not possible and please don't say write my own song.Thanks Leonard

Hi Leonard, I probably know as much as you do on writing music an such (although I have a pretty good ear for it), but I can tell you that once you generate a melody or solo for that matter,it pretty much stays the way it is unless you re-generate the melody, in other words, you have to hit "generate melody" again for it to create a new melody along the same chords. just leave the rest of the parameters the way they are and it will generate a new melody. Now be aware that there are only a few notes combination (if we want to call it that way)so sometimes the melody will sound pretty similar to the one before, so you have to have patience and mess around with it until you find the one you like. Chances are that someone else will respond to this with a little more knowledge so we both can learn from it.

Using Melodist, when you select a Melodist then click OK to leave the page
music will be generated. Each time you go to melodist this happens.
Different tempo's different keys(unless you force the key).
The chord pattern determines what the music will sound like...sorta a DUH moment,
but just wait. I use an AABA pattern for generation. Usually this is what comes
up. But bit like rolling dice, there is only so much control we can exercise in
how the music comes out.
You can re-generate individual tracks, but once the chord pattern is set that
regeneration will follow them.
I've done up to 15-20 passes(selecting melodist, click OK to leave it) to get decent sounding music out. Once in awhile with some styles, never happy with results.
