Hi, guys. Just thought I'd post a few lines in gratitude to BB and their support team.
I began using BB about 1994? on a tiny Mac, and have used it ever since. As a music educator of many years, (and at 74 still have 18 private students on various instruments) I can attest to the invaluable inspiration that the program has given my kids. So thank you BB, for the dedication and forsight in making a teaching method that has gone ahead in leaps and bounds from the old "floppy" days to the present time.
As for BB Support staff...Wow! In Australia if you call for support most companies send you a jock-strap in the mail! Got Will, in Canada on live chat, and in five minutes he had sent me setup files that he thought may help. However, because I don't understand what is wrong - I just buy 'em and run 'em - 2012 still won't load.
No matter. As they say -you can't pin a bow tie on a billy goat. The fault is mine, and I appologise to Will for not being better equipped to put to his skills use.
I will contact Aus. support and see if I can send him my discs to have a look at. Don't know if this is possible, but will try. I can't afford to buy them again.
Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate The entire BB team, on behalf of myself and all my students, for making my working life easier and inspirational. We have all learned so much.
Many thanks.

Yes, PG Music Support is great - the best out there. They just solved a problem for me in less than a day.

Jazzvibes, you mentioned you used to use a Mac, but this is the BIAB for Windows forum so perhaps you now have a PC? I doubt we can match the skills of Support, but if you would like us to try, you can give us your specs and a thorough description of the problem, and we can take a crack at it.

I would want to start with, do you have any virus/malware checkers, and are they on? Also, which OS? If it's Vista or Windows 7, we can talk about UAC and where you tried to install. Both of these known issues relate to setup files not loading.

Hi, Matt. Thanks for your swift response. Running Win7 vista Home on a Median comp.
The story in brief:
Had a capable friend load all my stuff on the new comp, including 2011. Bought 2012 and he loaded that for me also. BB fonts started acting up so I tried to reload 11 and 12. -friend had since gone to Musso heaven. Nothing worked so I took comp. to local service guy who said I had a bug he could not find. He reformatted the drive and reloaded Win7. Brought it home and tried to reload. No go. Realized that Kaspersky antivirus had deleted some files.
I did not reload that program. Now have "Essentials".
If I run 2011 I get" H\PGMusic\Installers\Band-In-A-Box\setup exe does not exist. Cannot run."
Also "Can't find or problem with DataList ASC"
That's it for 11.
!2 seems to be worse: Setup runs through all acceptance screen then starts to load. Stops with error message "C\Users\Geoff\Documents\IK Multimedia\Amplitude3\Presets\Band-In-A-Box\All\Airbendera3p" " File corrupted."
Kaspersky really got into this!
It seems like IK multi is trying to run before anything else. Support sent me IK and bandinabox_realband_2012_full, but I have no idea where to put them.
That's about it, Matt. Glad vand thankful for your help!

bandinabox_realband_2012_full - sounds like you should just run this. It's an .exe file, right?

I did run this file just as I got it. Loaded BB ok, but it surely needs to be somewhere on the 2012 hard drive for it to open all the files, reatracks etc. I don't where it belongs on the drive for it to work. Sorry I'm such an ignorant goose when it comes to this stuff. Over all these years everything has gone fine without having to worry about it

Ok, so you have Windows 7 (not Vista) and you did not load Kaspersky after the reformat. All good. Microsoft Security Essentials does not interfere with the BIAB installation; I also use that for my virus checker and do not have to turn it off.

There are two installs. If the BIAB_Realband setup .exe file ran successfully, that's all you really need unless you want Amplitude, and we all got along fine without it before it was introduced. I still don't use it.

My suggestion at this point would be for you to request PG Support take control of your computer remotely. They can see where you did the install and correct whatever is needed. I can tell you that you can install BIAB pretty much anywhere EXCEPT for the /Program Files folder (either one, if 64-bit). We normally recommend people just accept the suggested default location of C:/BB if you don't feel comfortable with file management on your computer.

By the way, I haven't used Kaspersky but I doubt it altered your files. Virus checkers will quarantine infected files but not delete them. You have a new setup file anyway to use on your newly formatted drive, so it should work fine. If not, do what I suggested and consult Support to fix it remotely.

I suspect the BIAB_RealBand_full file that Will sent you is essentially the same as the BIAB Pro version (no RealTracks/RealDrums/etc). I don't know which version you originally purchased, but here's what I would do. I am assuming that you want to install BIAB/RealBand onto your computer's C: drive.

* I would highly recommend that you temporarily turn UAC (User Access Control) completely off. I wasn't clear on which operating system you have, since you said you have Win7 Vista Home. Win7 and Vista are slightly different in how they turn UAC on/off. If you don't know how to do it, just Google it and you'll find out how.

* Save the RealBand_BIAB_full file that Will sent you on your desktop (for now).

* Hook up the BIAB 2011 external USB hard drive to your computer.

* Open Windows Explorer (file explorer, not Internet Explorer) and find the external hard drive for BIAB 2011. I will assume it is H:\ on your computer, based on your original post, but substitute whatever drive letter it comes up as.

* Right-click on the H:\BB folder and select "Copy" from the popup menu.

* Right-click on the C:\ drive and select "Paste" from the popup menu. This will take a long time to copy.

* Right-click on the H:\RealBand folder and select "Copy" from the popup menu.

* Right-click on the C:\ drive and select "Paste" from the popup menu and let it finish copying.

* Once the files are copies, eject the BIAB 2011 USB hard drive and connect the BIAB 2012 USB hard drive. I will again assume it came up as H:\, but substitute whatever drive letter it shows up as.

* Right-click on the H:\BB folder and select "Copy" from the popup menu.

* Right-click on the C:\ drive and select "Paste" from the popup menu. When it tells you the files or folders already exist, be sure to select the option to overwrite and replace "All" files. You may have to do that several times as it works through the files and folders. Again, this will take a long time to copy.

* Right-click on the H:\RealBand folder and select "Copy" from the popup menu.

* Right-click on the C:\ drive and select "Paste" from the popup menu and let it finish copying. Again, when it tells you the files or folders already exist, be sure to select the option to overwrite and replace "All" files. You may have to do that several times as it works through the files and folders.

* Now that all the files are copied, go to your desktop and double click on the BIAB_RealBand_full file that Will sent you. This should be the full installer for the BIAB and RealBand files. The RealTracks and RealDrums will have been copied over in the previous copy operation.

* When the installer asks you where you want to install BIAB, select C:\BB. When the installer asks you where you want to install RealBand, select C:\RealBand. For any other options (such as PGMusic Plugins), just accept the default location.

* Once the installer is finished, you should have an icon on your desktop for both BIAB and RealBand. Double click BIAB and see which version you are running, and then check the PGMusic support website to see which is the most recent version of BIAB 2012 (not 2012.5, which is considered a different version). If there is an update for a higher version, then download it and install it.

* Run BIAB and make sure everything is working for you. Do the same with RealBand. Check the settings for the location of RealTracks and RealDrums (for both programs). RealTracks should be in C:\BB\RealTracks and RealDrums should be in C:\BB\RealDrums (same settings for both programs). Rebuild the style list and make sure everything shows up okay. Once you are satisfied, you should be able to turn UAC back on.

The above will install BIAB and RealBand, but not the add-ons. Those may or may not install properly (based on the problems you've already had). If you want them, then just try. Go to the external hard drive and find the H:\PGMusic folder. You should find the installers there for the add-on programs.

If you do this, let me know how it works, and then I'll tell you how to take what you've done and make a backup back onto your external hard drive so you can re-install again, if necessary.

Thanks, guys, for the advice. My internet failed yesterday and I've just loaded up again. Just read your post, John, and I bust out laughing at my ignorance! UAC...never heard of it before...but you directions are so clear that I should have no difficulty in following them.Even an old dude like me can learn! Thanks for your help. I will read about a dozen times and give it a try later today.
I do feel though that 2012 has been corrupted somehow. 2011 seems to have only one exe. file missing. But, I'll give it a go. Got nothing to lose!
Better go and put the rubbish bin out before the truck comes or my life won't be worth living.

Thanks John. Everything works fine! Your blood is worth bottlin'! If ever you need a kidney or two ( I'll lift my arm and pee from my armpit!) - just let me know...you can have 'em!
In hindsight what Support advised me to do was correct. I just did not have the skills to do it. Your step-by-step guide did the trick
Am now looking forward to your advice on a backup copy.
Many, many thanks!

Backup is easy...

* Mount your BIAB 2012 USB drive (I'll assume it's the H: drive, but substitute whatever drive letter it comes up as).

* Open Windows Explorer (file explorer, not Internet Explorer) and find the C:\BB.

* Right-click on the C:\BB folder and select "Copy" from the popup menu.

* Right-click on the H:\ drive and select "Paste" from the popup menu. When it tells you the files or folders already exist, be sure to select the option to overwrite and replace "All" files. You may have to do that several times as it works through the files and folders. Again, this will take a long time to copy.

* Once the C:\BB folder is done, right-click on the C:\RealBand folder and select "Copy" from the popup menu.

* Right-click on the H:\ drive and select "Paste" from the popup menu and let it finish copying. Again, when it tells you the files or folders already exist, be sure to select the option to overwrite and replace "All" files. You may have to do that several times as it works through the files and folders.

* Find the BIAB_RealBand_Full.exe file (or whatever it's exactly called - the one PGMusic sent you) on your desktop and right click on it and select "Copy" from the popup menu.

* Right-click on the H:\ drive and select "Paste" from the popup menu

You now have everything backed up. Disconnect the USB drive and put it in a safe place.

After you make your backup, if you ever need to re-install BIAB 2012 (which may be never, if you end up upgrading in the future and get a new hard drive), just do the following:

* Copy the folder H:\BB to the C:\ drive just like you did above.
* Copy the folder H:\RealBand to the C:\ drive just like you did above.
* Run the H:\BIAB_RealBand_Full.exe file (not any of the other executable files) to complete the install.

Good luck.
