3-year old Dell desk top, Win7 32 bit, Real Band Ver 2010 (4).

I'm a home hobbiest, using RB in the most simple manner, and not very knowledgeable. Just creating a MIDI backing track(s), then recording my guitar on an accompanying audio track. But the MIDI ending is usually so harsh and abrupt as to be unpleasant. Using a 2-bar ending sometimes helps, but not always.

Is there a "fade out" feature available for the MIDI tracks (similar to that for audio tracks) that would let me control the sound of the ending?

Thanks

Frank

Many ways;
Use mixer to record fader moves
Use 'Edit-Fill' to fill any tracks with a Volume Change Control (#7) and have it fill from current volume to zero
Transfer to audio and use 'Edit - Gain Change; Fade Out'
Open Piano Roll and draw in the volume curve.

Probably other ways too.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks, rharv. I was afraid of that. No easy, one-click solution!!

Never the less, I appreciate your thoughts and your help and I'll see if I can put one (or more) of your suggestions to work. As I said, I'm not very knowledgeable!

FWIW, I usually do the mixdown to stereo, open the stereo wavefile, then apply fade to the whole shebang easily..

As I feared, I was unable to accomplish anything. I don't have enough understanding of MIDI to even know what all the words mean. So I guess I'll go with what I've got.

Thanks anyway.

Under Audio, Merge Audio and Vsti/DXi Tracks to Stereo Wave File, name it and merge, close session and open the processed wave file then Highlight the area of the song you want faded. Under Edit, Audio Effects, Gain Change there is a Fade Out option that will give a single click fade out. Save it under a different name in case you don't like it later.

Thank you, Tommyc. Even I was able to accomplish those actions and it works just fine for my needs. I appreciate your help, and rharv also, of course.

Tommyc, I am still confused. After processing the "faded out" WAV file and renaming it, I can apparently save it only as a .SEQ file, not .WAV. Is that expected, and how do I get it back to a WAV file, please?

Use the same Audio - Merge Audio and DXi tracks to stero wave file you used previously

Hi All, I'm back again on the same subject. I've stumbled across a feature that I'm trying to figure out.

With RB open to the chords window containing chords I've entered, if I press function key F5, I get a smaller window headed "Settings for Bar XX". It appears to offer several options for changing bar settings. The most interesting to me is the "Volume Change" option, applicable to any or all BB instruments.
Options are:
Mute
Back to Normal
Change By
Fade (per bar)
Louder (per bar)

I'm still trying to understand how it works but it does appear to reduce the BB track volume when applied. I'm further plagued by a "REPEAT" option that I'm having trouble avoiding.

Any help or guidance for me in trying to understand what's going on?

This suggestion from rharv: "Open Piano Roll and draw in the volume curve." is the closest you will get to a 'one-click' solution.

You probably don't want a one-click solution here. You want to determine how long the fade should be, right? Consider that one step - either it's going to be a length of the song that you type in somehow, or you do it graphically. I prefer graphically. The nice thing about the graphic way of doing it is that it's easy to change it.

Hello Scott and thanks.

I probably didn't really mean one-click, rather meaning a simple solution.

The first part of "Open Piano Roll and draw in the volume curve." is easy. It's the second part that has so far escaped me. Lots of strange, unexplained little symbols and icons that change with cursor position. I've taken another look at the Piano Help Panel and I guess there's more there than I thought. I always want things to be easy but sometimes that not the case. I'll keep studying it and maybe the second part of that advice will become possible!!

In the Piano Roll window;
did you change the object being controlled to Volume Change (I think it defaults to note).

Well, it's coming along, I guess, with patience and careful study. The line tool seems easier to use than the pencil tool, but less flexible. I found I had to apply the tool (which ever one) to each track individually. Is that the only way to get every track faded?

The F5 feature may prove easier and quicker if I can figure out the details.

Thanks for all the help.

rharv, yes I did make that change.

To get it kind of working for me just took a lot of experimenting and paying attention. Believe it or not, this is kind of complicated for a really old guy like me.

Thanks

Frank
