Which ever way you go. Can't you just save the melody track in the 1st file to a midi file, then in the 2nd file, move the melody in that file to the soloist track, and finally import the melody from the 1st file into the 2nd file. Hint: Use "edit melody track" from the drop down Melody Menu.
