When I record in PT11 I keep hearing an audible “click” type noise. This only happens about once every two minutes so I can’t manage to mix a whole song down to stereo without a “click” being in the recording. I’ve no idea what’s causing this or how to stop it. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you solve it?

Could be something in the background is happening every couple minutes, shut that service off.
Could be anything from iTunes trying to update, to windows doing some housekeeping, or antivirus checking ports or updates... or a shared IRQ somewhere
Could also be something in the house causing an electrical click...
what OS, etc?
Can you describe the click better?

I can only really describe it a faint click, certainly not loud but it's deffinately there and only seems to occur about once every couple of minutes so when I try to do a mix it happens once or twice in defferent parts of the recording. Thanks for your suggestions, having considered them, it could be interference from the mains but I've used the pc in different buildings and it's just the same. I think it's more likely that you're correct in thinking this is could be caused by some sort of update on the pc so it might just be a case of finding out what it is and turning off the update. I'm now using Vista, certainly never had this with previous pc and XP.

Well, there's yer clue- if it didn't happen with different PC in same house... must be something in that system. Try one by one shutting down running services that aren't needed for recording.
Unplug the jack to the internet and see if there is a difference..
Turn off antivirus and antispyware
Turn off any 'monitor' software that may be polling the system looking for an iPod for something, etc.

You could be maxing your CPU, particularly if you're using virtual instruments or sound files. Check it out in Task Manager. There is some discussion of this in PT Help under "latency". I have seen a few articles on the internet as well. I was getting distortion until I added more RAM and increased the latency to take the load of the CPU.
