John, the BBE goes last in the chain, just before the amp, or you'll be fighting with the EQ.
I have used an earlier version of this unit. I don't use it any more. The reason is that it gives you a sound that I can best describe as 'brittle' that begins to almost hurt your ears after awhile. At first, it sounds great, but then your ears get 'tired'. That doesn't make any sense, I know, but it will.
Keep in mind, my method of using any effect is very conservative: turn it up until I hear it, then cut in half. Thus I am not over-using the effect that I describe.
However, I have not used BBE in live stage work, only the studio. It may very well be worthwhile in live work. Like any effect, use in moderation.

BBE says put it before the House EQ.From what I've read about the BBE unit is that it's totally different then the Aphex Aural Exciter.The BBE only makes an attempted at time aligning 3 frequency bands.The Aphex adds noise.We'll see how it goes.
They do say however that if the source material has noise that EQing of the source signal may be necessary.I don't have noise.

I still think that advice is wrong. It is even counter to their own instructions on my unit. However, as long as you are aware of the potential problem, you'll be fine with some experimenting.

BBE do indeed advise to put it before the EQ. I have tried both ways & both work, just slightly differently. Matt, the bbe really shines when used live, in the studio it has exactly the effect that you describe but live it is much easier on the ear & for me, that is where it is best used.

John, I have used a 362 for years with good and not so good results. As Matt reports, it can get to be a little bit harsh at times. I find that using it in an over all mix causes feedback from a mike. I use it live now, but only as follows-HP dv7 Lap Top--Band In A Box--BBE 362--Allen&Heath ZED 10FX--left and right out to a pair of QSC K12's. The seperate sub out is fed every so gently to channel two of the left only QSC. I am shure you will be happy with the 362. Leon

Got it today and have been playing around with different setups. Matt you are correct. The best sound comes when the unit is after the EQ and just before the amps. It really brings these cheap Kustom boxes to the front.The intelligibilty of vocals and acoustic guitars, cymbals, drums, well shoot everything seems more defined.It reminds me of taking a real nice mix and then running it through Tracktion "Final Mix" plug. It just brings everything out.

The funny thing is that in ALL the research I've done BBE is the only one that recommends it before the EQ.Then I found other info and they recommend after. I think the 362 is their original unit and they themselves have discovered that last in the chain is best but have not updated the manual for the 362.
BTW Matt it's been my experience that you've gottin' it right more then once in awhile.

I recieved mine on Friday and got it hooked up this weekend. Put it in the chain between the mixer and the amp. Also split the outs on the BBE to go to the laptop soundcard for recording. I had a great time playing around with the BBE switching between bypass and ON to hear the great crystal clear sound and nice lows even without a sub. I think it was a great purchase!
