I don't know if this is typical or what, but I've experienced a LOT of crashes with both BIAB and RealBand. Especially if I'm using RealTracks, it's almost guaranteed the system will go down and I'll get a blue screen "access violation" error (I think that's what it's showing). It'll happen when I'm using RealDrums too, not so much with just straight MIDI but still once in a while. I'm using a Dell Optiplex PC with XP Professional version 2002, Intel Pentium 4 CPU2.80 Ghz 2.79 Gh 1.99 GB of RAM, and a hard drive with 350 GB. If this is normal then I'm dissapointed with the programs, if not I'm not sure what to do. Other programs like Cubase and Acid Pro 6 work just fine on this PC. I'm really enjoying using both BIAB and RealBand except for this...any suggestions?

Hi Beowolf,

Your problems are not common place but can happen with computers which are not up to a level of spec - I have not experienced your crashes

If you are using both BIAB and RealBand at the same time then either close one down - or - choose different sound card drivers so they do not clash -i.e VSC Dxi on the main one and MS GS WaveTable (non DXi) on the other

The current BIAB - RealBand - RealTracks - RealDrums etc is very large due to the audio files and a hard drive of just 350 Gb may be the problem when added to your other load

Try a Disc Check then followed by a disk clean and then full defrag - if you still get the same problems it could be the computer hard drive

I don't use BIAB and RealBand at the same time...that never occured to me to do. And it appears that with both programs and their files (and everything else I've got on the PC) I still have 208 GB free! These days that's not much I guess. I'll try the clean and defrag and see what's up.

Also, if you are getting a blue screen of death, and you can't read it before it reboots, set your BIOS to not reboot upon crashes.

The blue screen of death is generally caused by drivers. Can you tell us about your soundcard and MIDI settings?

Well, I can read the blue screen...it hangs around. It talks about "access violation" then gives incomprehensible code #s, which I haven't memorised. I'm using an M-Audio Ozone as my asio driver/soundcard/MIDI input device. I've got it set as both input and output driver, I don't know if that's a problem or not and I couldn't find any advice about it in manual or help menu...perhaps I don't know what to look for. I'm using the VSC DXi as my General MIDI generator.

I did a check disk and refrag, by the way, and at this point RB and BIAB seem to be behaving much better. We'll see how it goes!

I appreciate all the help! It's an amazing set of programs and there's a lot of functions, I've been reading the manual and the tutorials and the amount of things you can do is truly head-spinning. At this point I'm using it a lot as a practice tool, but as an extremely reluctant engineer and producer of my own CDs I can see where it could be really useful there too. I don't play keys well and don't play drums at all, so some of these generated tracks could be just the ticket...if I can figure it out a bit better. Thanks again.
