Hi everyone,

Just trying the DAW plugin mode feature taking files from BIAB to Reaper 64bit. So I opebned up BIABN and then went into Daw plugin mode. Then I launched Reaper. First problem I encountered was that Reaper warned me that it could not find ASIO or my MIDI keyboard. Presumably this is becasue BIAB is set for ASIO and only one program can use ASIO at a time. I had assumed that once you went to DAW plugin mode then BIAB would release the ASIO. So next I tried changing BIAB to MME so now Reaper opened OK for ASIO but still warned me that could not find the MIDI keyboard. This worked slightly better and managed to drop a drum track to Reaper OK. Next I tried a bass track and BIAB crashed. It is a shame as it would be so cool to be able to have BIAB and Reaper both open and able to swap files from BIAB easily to Reaper.

Any pointers from expert BIAB/Reaper users would be great. I am using latest edition of BIAB and Reaper.

Regards

Tony

This works great. Keep at it as it is all configuration. Reaper and BIAB work together very well.

That is great news. In Reaper I use Firewire device using ASIO and have my master keyboard set up as MIDI controller. I have the same settings for BIAB. Separately they both work fine but when I try the DAW Plugin mode BIAB is obviously stealing the ASIO and MIDI keyboard over Reaper. It would be great if you could approx tell me what your configuration is which works well.

Thanks

Tony

This is how it works in Sonar with an USB sound card so I’ll assume that this will work with Reaper:
1-set BiaB to MME drivers
2-shut down BiaB then restart BiaB – make sure it is still in MME mode
3-load song, set BiaB to plug in mode
4-load Reaper using ASIO drivers

this should work – I hope it helps.

PS-an after thought if the above doesn't work. Set both BiaB and Reaper to MME. Repeat steps 3 + 4. Save song in Reaper then set Reaper to ASIO and continue.

Thanks for your help. I solved it by using different ASIO devices for Reaper and Band in a Box. however I also tried opening the BIAB files in RealBand and then using this Daw Plugin mode which I think might be a better way to do it. The files are already generated in RealBand so dragging them to Reaper is instantaneous. It also solved the problem that I was getting individual files as stereo (eg bass) which I wanted as mono when I went from BIAB to Reaper. However when generating the BIAB song in RealBand they all generated correctly as mono apart from drums in stereo which was correct. There seem to be many features in RealBand which make it a very good intermediate step before transferring to Reaper.
