So I complained finally about being always cold, dumb, and sitting staring at nothing. Blood tests said my Thyroid was out of whack, or probably done in by radiation. I got new pills, synthetic hormone. I hadn't read a book in almost 3 years, I figured I was getting OLD, tired, chemo did me in, etc. I read 2 the first week. I could not understand the page I just read for ever, now I can read well again. I'm only 1/2 as cold as before. I have cleaned the garage, the basement, tore up broadloom in 2 rooms to reveal hardwood floors. I bought a pickup and carted 4 loads to the dump. Bought 3 loads of varying types of dirt. Re-arranged all my files, moved my computers to a new room. If you need your garage cleaned or something like that, I'm soon available. I'm running out of stuff to do. LOL. Now if only the hip replacement, and something to fix the arthritic fingers could come along, I'd be Singing in yer rain. I don't need the 'lectric blanket so far, the wife is HOT! Comes in flashes, but hey. My doc thinks my voice might come back a bit. Yikes. Singing in yer shower! In the key of way too low. I can almost make A1, (55 Hz) sound ok my voice is solo w. Don't dispair. Speaking of which I never cut my hair for 3 years. Ponytail was OK. But the dog/puppy grabbed it one too many times and the clippers came out and I'm near bald again. Too bad about the winter. It's down to 5C tonight, and 0 is only a few days away. Keep on the sunny side! My Momma still loves me, she was here for her 62nd wedding anniversary with Dad today. 10 people and a dog for supper. I'm nuts. But I can still make good bread/buns, and we did a few tunes with the flute and piano. I've got Holiday for Strings stuck in my skull right now, anyone want to take it? And some other 60's stuff. If you do Facebook, look me up, John Conley is all you should need. I wish they John Conlee would send me 1/2 the royalties! 2400 bucks got me a 2002 GMC Sierra (single cab, no crew or 1/2), with a just installed rebuilt transmission and drive train, some nice rust, good rubber, and the dog to sit beside me. I set all those buttons to the country station for fun, the wife is calling me NUTS! (I am, we always had just classical buttons!) Well one jazz but it's on Toronto and totally iffy. There I am, taking the dog out to country roads, trying to whistle, listening to songs about tractors and trucks, picking up random pieces of ash (all our ash trees died, which is about 1 tree out of 20). I'm putting a wood burning stove in the garage, and sitting with the dog and pretending to smoke the pipe. I figured the gov't pensions were good until I was 90, I can't check out yet, they OWE me cash!!!

John,
I too have thyroid problems, cold feet and legs a lot, on mild meds for that. Probably heavy beryllium exposure in my case, with few doses of Alpha particle radiations externally. Worked in a Nuke reclamation center for awhile.
Truck sounds like a real bargain, and dog to boot.
Glad to hear your story, sounds like your having some good days.

I am a psychiatric nurse by profession, so I only have a slight grip on reality.
I remember a time when I was sitting with a guy called Fred who had just spent 45 years inside an asylum - for no really good reason. The sun was shining and we shared a cup of tea in the garden.
He was diagnosed schizophrenia, but I was seeing litle signs of this.
He looked at me and sudddenly stated " I am a millionaire"
I gave him that professional 'one flew over the.." look. I was troubled by this remark.
He saw this expression on my face, then he smiled and turned round to me, smiled, he took his cup and raised it, took his roll up ciggy in the other hand, looked at the sun...
and then said "I got my cigarette, I got my cup of tea, Hey I AM a millionaire!
I will always carry this emotion with me..
Tommorow I meet my teeth for the first time... the best is yet to come..

when you feed 10 people with one dog, are there usually leftovers?

Glad to hear the new meds are helping John! Any relief is good!

Hi John,
Glad to hear the good report. Perhaps you can pack the dog into the new truck and make the trip to Flint for their unique Flint Coney Islands. The locals call them gut bombs. Just tell the waitress you want ,"2 UP" and you'll be all set. Not sure if the dog will touch them or not?

Great news John,
I enjoyed the post and was reminded of when my wife first went on Thyroid therapy. Her dose was a little too high and she was bouncing off the walls and a total bundle of energy. They got it under control, and now she can't remember how to clean the house.
Glad things are back to normal.
I'm jealous of the truck and the Dog.

Other JC, so glad that you are finally getting a measure of relief. That tiny gland is critical to our general well-being. I heard the author, a Medical Doctor, interviewed on Seattle talk radio during my morning commute and I was so convinced that he was on the right track that I stopped and bought his book, SOLVED: The Riddle Of Illness! After reading it, my wife was able to convince her doctor to run some additional tests (T3 and T4) and subsequently determined that her thyroid was way out of whack. We would not have suspected the need for further testing had it not been for the book. http://www.amazon.com/Solved-Illness-Stephen-E-Langer/dp/0879836679My wife has been on thyroid medication ever since and feels much better now. The standard tests showed her thyroid as "low normal" so no replacement medication would have been given and her hypothyroidism would have gone undetected and untreated. I noticed that Amazon has a Kindle version for 10 Loonies. Could well be the best 10 bux you've ever spent, especially when considering that your thyroid is acknowledged to be a "krispy critter." Just sayin'...

Thanks guys. Don, my Doc is a good friend. He gave me what's for because I never mentioned the symptoms before, I had other stuff on my alleged mind.
Now I'm on strict 100% divulgence orders, if it's happening, tell him.
Problem is that I might get to working, but the joints and muscles hate me for it, and I pay, usually in the achy breaky back department.
Fall is creeping up quick here, it was 3C this a.m., and only 7C at 10:30. For me, that's an Arctic adventure. My dog, on the other arthritic hand, runs in and out of every mudpuddle, chest deep, full tilt, circle, and plunge in 5 more while I pull down the toque and blow in my glove. What a nut case. I keep telling her that she's going to catch cold but she won't listen. Crazy mutt.
Anyone want to catch one of the 2 weekly flights to Cuba with me soon? That's a fun trip, take your own wee packages of pepper though.

The sad fact is, according to the book, US and Canadian doctors don't know how to correctly read and properly interpret T3 and T4 tests. There is no shame in that fact. The book has a complete section for medical professionals explaining in medical terminology exactly what the author has learned since medical school. I would be suspicious of any doctor, friend or not, that has no interest in learning something new. He can't possibly know it all. My wife initially had difficulty convincing her doctor to read it but now it is standard practice for him.
Please don't take this as a slam against your doctor. A good, caring doctor should be eager to explore new and affective treatment options.
The author states that the "threshold readings" taught in Med Schools are way too high. He then goes in depth to support that finding in medical terms. Your doctor might enjoy reading the author's studies.
Jus' sayin'.
Incidentally, bloodless surgery, trailblazed by your JW friends worldwide has resulted in countless thousands of hospitals finally realizing the medical benefits of bloodless surgery and have implemented bloodless treatment options for all of their patients, not only JWs. In fact, many so called freedoms regarding medical treatments, the rights of patients worldwide, have been won for you in Canadian and world courts by none other than JWs.
I have a DVD entitled: NO BLOOD! Medicine Meets The Challenge that all who have seen it have elected bloodless treatment in any future surgeries. I would be thrilled to send it to you or anyone interested in state-of-the-art surgical procedures. Its a real eye-opener!
It may be delivered by two elderly and stove up little ladies armed only with a bible so don't sick your dog on them.

Don, quit the preaching.
Every day there are AM radio programs about this guy or that guy and their so called quackery stuff.
My pharmacist and doctor work side by side, one door apart. They are taking care of the issue, and I'm giving written feedback on a daily worksheet. I'm not interested in scouring the net for some new thing, I'm interested in feeling well.
Some people are preoccupied with extending their lives by taking royal jelly infusions with coffee up the yahoo. Not for me. Kindly now, forget about it. I'll deal with it along with those close to me.
Otherwise thanks. I bled all over with the 22 stitches in my face chasing cancer under my skin. Another big bleeder coming too. It's ok, I have enough, I can spill some...
I've got to get my energy up for the Xmas season, when our Tuba band plays Handel. I guess you'd not be interested in that great performance. I have a word for that...
I have a nice dog, but I'm not interested in you adding the ma part to it. On that note...
