It has been suggested by Bobflatpicker that the topic be retired. It is not spicy or racy enough for discerning adults. Its childish, boring and immature for some who nevertheless still find time to visit, read, then criticize. (I find that interesting of itself).

Some considerations before answering:

1. The maintenance of the thread gives one tired old Oyrishman purpose in life while keeping him off the sidewalks in power wheelchair races with octogenarian chicks and, at the same time, keeping him out of the collective hair of the nursing staff, to their undying gratitude.

2. It gives, at least a few, reason to visit these forums regularly to be exposed, even tangentially, to the wonderful products of PG Music which exposure I continue to think is a desirable byproduct.

3. I have striven to keep it "family-oriented" in content knowing that my own grandchildren follow it regularly.

Rather than discontinue the topic to yield to the will of a very tiny minority, I ask the opinion of my many musician friends.

Simply choose: Yes, continue the joke topic,
or, No, lay it to it's eternal rest.

Thank you.

Don,
I think you should keep it alive, but as a new thread. Maybe after 100 jokes, start a new one. The old ones will stay in archives anyway, it isn't like they'd be lost.

Don,

I have since recanted my suggestion and even contributed some banjo and other music related jokes, if you recall.

If it’s important to you, keep it going.

Don.

If you keep it going, people have a choice as to whether or not they visit. If you retire it, the choice has gone.

Stick with it my old pal; the world can't have too much humor. (Notice the American spelling as a tribute to your unstinting efforts!)

Why not ask the Mods for a joke forum, call it the Off-off-topic forum and if you are up to it maybe you could be a guest moderator. I don't know how these internetz things work before I get flamed by the knowledgable ones.

I have often wondered what part of Ireland you are from.

ROG, I've been (pronounced like bean, per PM Blair) exposed to so much Brit and Canuck English that, at first, I thought that you had misspelled humo(u)r! Chuckle, snicker!

Seriously, thanks four your highly valued encouragement. We wee Oyrish need to stick together.

Alyn, as they say in the pubs of Ireland: "I be two generations removed from the old sod!" T'was me wee dear granddad who left the Emerald Isle and settled in the Maritime Province of New Brunswick, Canada. Specifically, Moncton, NB where the Canadian Gaynors still live. I also have living cousins in the Province of Ontario.

As for where in Ireland my roots are, I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know. However, my Canadian cousin, Helen Gaynor-Mills, has written a book on my family which candidly names the scoundrels as well as the heroes. (a little heavy on the scoundrel side, unfortunately). The book goes back several generations so you have prompted me to ask her precisely where in Ireland my rootstock originated.

I'll email her now and ask, stay tuned.

My maternal grandparents are from Scotland and settled in NB also.

Matthew, colo(u)r me terminally Oyrish. It was my first attempt at doing a poll and I selected the default start date (today) only to learn that, in Canada, today starts at 2 PM Central Time. Canadians also talk funny, eh? I tried to go back and edit the poll but did not find that option anywhere. I fear that you will have to come back later if you wish to participate...and I certainly hope you will.

I voted to retire it because there was not a 3rd option, which is much what Rog suggested. 100 jokes into it, start another thread. 40 pages later it gets a bit much for a new visitor to digest without it turning into a part time job.

Don, as a new person here, I LIKE the joke thread and it should definitely NOT be retired. Nor should it be changed! Tis fine as it tis. I am delighted that you care enough about making your friends here smile that you keep it going! Anyone saying otherwise is just having a bad day/week/life and this thread can help that!

Mostly for Alyn...Here is my cousin Helen's reply:

Quote:

WELL, DONNY,...COUNTY CORK WAS MENTIONED BY YOUR UNCLE BILL...MY FATHER. THERE WAS ALSO MENTION ABOUT COUNTY MEATHE.

I HAVE NO INFO. OTHER THAN THAT. ONE HAS TO KNOW THAT THERE WAS MUCH DESTRUCTION DURING WARS AND THAT FIRES TOOK AWAY HISTORICAL DATA.

SORRY I CAN'T HELP YOU MORE THAN THAT.

LATER,

CUZ HELEN

I also have vague memories of my Dad talking about County Cork but I have forgotten in what context. There are numerous Irish songs mentioning County Cork so that locale may simply have been implanted through repetition. My family sang many Irish ballads while I was growing up. Music was a constant in our home, all genres.

Yes. Keep it. There's little enough humor in the world today.

I voted to keep it -- why not? If it makes you and others happy, then keep doing what you are doing.

I don't ever look at it. Perhaps, I should, but it is not what I come here for...
However, if you EVER look at "Who's Is Online", at any one time, at LEAST 70% of what people are looking at - is this/that thread (sometimes 90%). It seems to get people here (where do they come from?). For that reason alone, it should be continued. And if they get a chuckle... all the better. Knock yourself our, Don!

Floyd, I find it impossible to argue against such warmth, wisdom and logic. Color me speechless!

Something is amiss with Who's On Line, they all show the exact same time! Some kind of bot, perhaps?
