As with any thread, I figure if you don't want to read it, then don't.
problem solved.

I voted keep it - you have no idea how many I've "borrowed", filed the serial numbers off, and reposted elsewhere

You bring a smile to the face of many more people than you realise mate.

Re: Poll - Should The Joke Thread Be Retired?

various unsuitable replies:

1) what?? is this some kind of sick joke??

2) no, but most of us who read it either are or wish they were...

3) it may have started as a thread, but now its so big it's more like a rope

4) at first I was on NEEDLES and pins, and a bit TORN up about it... but now SEAMS like you've SEWN up the answer to your question about the THREAD

5) re-TIRED?? are we talking about the THREAD? or the TREAD? (which reminds me that this joke has fallen flat and made me look a bit unbalanced and tired)

There's another forum I participate in and they have a separate thread for just jokes. I vote to keep it, but as has been mentioned, start a new thread every so often.

I would rather click on the jokes to read (from which I have found a number of gems) rather than getting spammed in my email box.

My $0.02 worth, value diminishing with every passing moment.

Looks like the mods are on their toes, all of those extraneous "visitors" are conspicuously absent from Who's On Line! Nice work, admin.

Don,

An option that you might want to consider would be to create a blog which focuses on joke sharing. Blogger.com or wordpress.com are good places to start.

Scott, see why I love this place?

I don't know zilch about blogging. Will I have the option of keeping it clean? I doubt very seriously that any other "family" would be so cooperative on that point, which is vital to me.

Don,

With most blogs, the person creating the blog can audit any posts or comments to the blog before the public sees it.

Scott, Don - FWIW I probably wouldn't bother going to yet another web site, especially just for a few(!) jokes, whereas I really appreciate the giggles I get from the joke thread here as part of my general browsing around the site...

Thanks Don.
I was interested because I am tracing my heritage and trying to continue where Dad left off. My Mum's ancestors were, by coincidence, from County Cork but emigrated to Australia when others went to America and they said they were Irish Australians, despite generations being born in Australia. All are passed now sadly. My Dad's ancestors stop at my paternal great grandfather as they were romany gypsies, from France, who settled in Wales, and as Dad said had a faster bike/ horse than the Welsh did!
I call myself a Welsh Australian when pushed, alto' I could easily describe myself as coming from Irish Gypsy stock and was interested in how people see them selves, nation-wise!

Music too was a great part of my early life all sitting round the piano singing from an early age. Mum also tried to teach me the didgeridoo, with little success and Dad the violin much to my neighbours distress LOL. So settled on piano and then guitar.
Thanks for the info

Alyn

Absolutely not!!

We finally have a thread about Jake and now you want to retire it? The man who in recent times is showing the true potential of the ukulele, one of the most under-rated instruments?

I don't know what secret agenda is going on here. I might be blind but I'm not done!

I see that it hit 50,000 views today. I'm certain that Peter can translate that into Loonies. Even if it's just "Preaching to the choir" it must include SOME prospective customers, me thinks.

I just noticed that my Robin Williams quotes didn't make it through customs. I respect that but we hear much worse on the 6 o'clock nightly news.

Mr. Anony Mouse is back in full force on the Who's On Line. About 20 of them. I suspect a Bot because they all show the exact same time and they don't toggle the view counter. Probably because they don't ever log out.

I voted to retire it because there was not a 3rd option, which is much what Rog suggested. 100 jokes into it, start another thread. 40 pages later it gets a bit much for a new visitor to digest without it turning into a part time job.

What I do, rather than scrolling through 40+ pages, I click in the far right column, Last Post, then, if necessary, scroll up a page or two.

The Leprechauns are making me want to see what happens when the counter reaches 99999. It’s me wee Oyrish devilment I think, sorry.

The counter climbs about 500+ views per day. Provided its kept clean, I think Peter will let it roll.
