Yes, it does sound reminiscent of some of Rod Stewart's early 70's stuff like "You Wear It Well." The fiddle sounds sort of Celtic in that context. A lot depends on what you do with the melody and variation of parts of course.

As some have rightly commented on my rock mixes, the drums could be more out front, especially kicks and snares (the hats are maybe too prominent, maybe play with the EQ and compression on the drums). I work in Sonar X1 & X2 and I find when I import normalized audio tracks from BIAB, they are very loud. I start by pulling down the master gain by -4 or -5 dB on the channel strip each imported track. I now try to pull back the faders too, then push up drums and bass to get a solid rhythm section, then push up the other instruments and vocals to taste. If I don't do that I end up clipping when I try to make the drums louder. Very basic stuff and I'm fortunate to work with a producer on some tracks - someone who really knows how to mix. I'm just learning.
