Diatonic Harmony is different from "standard" harmony.

In Diatonic Harmony, the way to chord the Major Scale would be I, V, I, IV, V, IV, V, I -- and have the bass notes follow the major scale upwards for the key.

Not the method in which the Maj /Scale tones are Maj, min, min, Maj, Maj, min, dim, Maj. (or -- I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, viidim, VIII )

I didn't realize that this was getting into harmony theory. I just knew with with certain pop songs, it just didn't sound right if you weren't playing an altered bass note. And of course, some songs have that descending line which needs to be there.

Is Diatonic more common in pop/rock than standard harmony?

And what is do you call the difference between:
I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, viidim, VIII
and
Imaj7, ii-7, iii-7, IVmaj7, V7, vi-7, viidim, VIIImaj7

Finally, I have found a cool signature with sufficiently dry humor.
